Biden elevates White House science post to Cabinet level

President-elect Joe Biden is elevating the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to a Cabinet-level position, a move that highlights the emphasis the incoming administration plans to put on science as it inherits a public health crisis.

But there is no difference between the parties.

Now they need a cabinet level post for IT, "Information Technology," that would cover anything related to computing technology, such as security issues, networking, hardware, software, the Internet, and the people that work with these technologies, including hackers.

Everything we do is wrapped around digital technologies. It's too important a field to be left out of the cabinet.

It was Nobel Laureate Glenn T. Seaborg. Seaborg's scientific heft played a huge role in the negotiations for the atmospheric nuclear test ban treaty in 1963.

Seaborg's relationship with all of the Presidents from Truman to Clinton is detailed in one of his many books:

A Chemist in the White House : From the Manhattan Project to the End of the Cold War

In my opinion there should be a formal Secretary of Science and Engineering. To a limited extent, the Department of Energy and the Department of Health and Human Services covers these, but these departments are seldom led by scientists. An exception of course, would be Steven Chu, who was, in my opinion, one of Obama's more inspired choices.

position. But not an actual cabinet position. So it won't be in the line of succession and the appointment won't require Senate confirmation. This would be similar to the Chief of Staff, DNI, CIA Director, Trade Representative, etc.

The position will be sufficiently cemented in the Cabinet that it will be permanent.

I hope.

Concentrating their efforts on 3 things - Cancer, Climate, I forgot the third one.

Sure other things as well to more modest degree.

Soon, the country will be back to planning to solve problems, not allowing the problems to happen while their impact is lied about.

Totally impressive group of people. One is a Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, she is trained as a Chemical Engineer. Another is a worldwide respected Social Scientists, who applies her expertise in the medical field, she is the Deputy Director of the new White House Science Cabinet post.
