(6,280 posts).... The vilification of Bill Maher is usually caused by his not being afraid to confront the right wing which a lot of Democrats take completely out of context as offering a platform for right-wing views. I see it as exposing them to the public. Another reason for his vilification is his courage to speak some uncomfortable truths about the left. It would be nice, but we are not perfect, and Bill Maher does not preach to the choir.

(6,280 posts).... and if you don't believe Bill Maher, listen to the Democratic politicians in this segment. People on the left don't want to hear rhetoric like this, but they need to in order to improve their message.

(15,221 posts)I think he can be an asshole sometimes too, and I certainly don't agree with him on some issues. But it's GOOD to listen to people you don't agree with. In fact, that's a big part of what Maher is on about when it comes to Democrats -- we've got to give up having so many "woke" purity tests.
You can either have a very small group of allies who fit into some rigid orthodoxy, or you have a big group of allies, and all the extra votes and power that brings, by learning to be tolerant of not just racial and ethnic and sexual and physical diversity, but tolerant of some philosophical and political diversity as well.

(29,322 posts)When right wing extremists stormed the Capitol. We don't have to do shit. The right need to keep their extremists in line who BTW are also hate groups.
DC is secured like a war zone and the right wing is to blame.

(3,974 posts)Its something that has been well discussed here and in many other venues.
So any other examples?

(3,974 posts)But still waiting for one uncomfortable truths that Maher points out.
quickesst
(6,280 posts)I could spend my time chasing down more examples for you, but no matter how many I present there will always be people who have discussed each one and do not view it as uncomfortable. On the other hand, there are many on the left who would take umbrage with every example I might present. Everyone on the left does not think exactly the same as you do. The left is not a hive with a hive mentality. Our opinions and the ways we deal with certain issues are many, and are highly diverse.
Dem4Life1102
(3,974 posts)and opinions are highly diverse. All of which disprove your original claim.

(6,280 posts)Please elaborate. Thanks.
Dem4Life1102
(3,974 posts)as you said what might be uncomfortable for some is not for others. Thus there are no uncomfortable truths for all the left.
quickesst
(6,280 posts).... "many on the left" do you not understand? I never said, nor implied that all of the left took umbrage to what Bill Maher has said. Show me anywhere in my posts the phrase, "All the left".

Which indicated all.

(6,280 posts)He does speak some uncomfortable truths about the left, but as I have told you, nowhere in my posts, original or otherwise did I state that it made all of the left uncomfortable. Taking my words completely out of context will not morph your accusation into a true statement. There is only one person I can think of that could pull off that hat trick.🤔
Dem4Life1102
(3,974 posts)It implies all the left. And you still havent shown an example for any of these uncomfortable truths.
quickesst
(6,280 posts).... You did not take umbrage, or feel uncomfortable, as you claim, with the examples I presented in the video that does not mean everyone on the left felt the same way. For some reason you seem to not be able to get away from the concept of a hive mentality on the left. As for what you deem qualifying, I believe there is a difference when it comes to understanding a simple concept by a reasonable adult which should not require qualification, and a complicated multi-level concept that may require qualification for that same reasonable adult. All I can say is, if you fail to understand my point by now, then further explanation will not change that, and would only be a waste of both our time.
Dem4Life1102
(3,974 posts)an uncomfortable truth but something well discussed. You failed to provide any other examples and you brought up hive mentality, not me, which undermines your original statement.
quickesst
(6,280 posts)It seems that of the several replies I have received concerning my original statement, yours is the only negative I can see. I am good with that outcome. Stay safe.

(3,974 posts)You made a statement and failed to back up your claim.
quickesst
(6,280 posts)Backing up my claim to you is like backing up my claim to trump supporters that there was no widespread voter fraud. They won't ever believe it, no matter what.
