"It was absolutely my pleasure to crush a white nationalist insurrection ..."

Police officer Daniel Hodges excited much concern and sympathy when video showed him being crushed in a doorway and assaulted repeatedly while trying to obstruct the Capitol rioters. He's now recovering and has this to say:

Liam Stack
@liamstack

“If it wasn’t my job I would do it for free. It was absolutely my pleasure to crush a white nationalist insurrection,” he said. “And we’ll do it as many times as it takes.”

Police reform should begin with removing bully racist sociopaths with good men like Hodges and Goodman. They are out there - filter out the nutcases who apply for law enforcement jobs and instead RECRUIT men like Hodges and Goodman. How our nation would change. And that doesn't even require huge funding, I would think - it just takes common sense.

but I agree it wouldn’t take huge funding, just adequate+. Such a campaign -- you got me thinking about this because it’s a great idea! -- would set up police recruiters against the military recruiters. Personally, I think the police would get first pick because of the pay and the absence of extended and repeated overseas assignments.

For profiling, consider the F.B.I. methodology (whatever that is) and tailor it to local needs. Same for training. I think if the recruiting process weeds out the dunderheads, like the two officers from Virginia who took selfies inside the building, the training can be more intensively intellectual as well as physical. (I know there are cops reading this who are shaking their heads and grinning at my ignorance, but I think the idea could work to improve the next generation of police by weeding out the dickheads and racists.)

Detroit maybe? New police trainees at a precinct were required to work with community groups to not only learn about and absorb the neighborhood, but to walk the streets and to meet the people. Don't know if agreeing to get so involved was mandatory or not, but if you display reluctance or disdain, you're automatically outta here! (that last part is just me talking, not that community program )

And recruitment... empathy, compassion and common sense are not automatically attached to college degrees. Are law enforcement applicants required to take personality tests, like maybe the Myers Briggs test?

I'll bet there are more police departments that already organize this way than we know of. I'm thinking about those vids and photos this summer of cops dancing with the BLM protesters, or kneeling with them, or just simply listening instead of clubbing them with batons. They're out there, and those departments need to be mirrored, from the top down - especially from the top.

I know there’d still be dunderheads who slip through, but the general quality of police and policing would improve.

But it should be a national effort with advertising -- just like the Army does -- to let young people know what a LEO career can offer.

Daniel Hodges is a Hero, we all need to salute him. We have lots of idiot white supremacists in our country but we have a lot more good decent law abiding citizens who values are the same as the majority of Americans. All these anti-American groups should be outlawed in USA. I am sure the FBI are keeping close tabs on them. We need stricter controls on them and especially on our politicians that sympathize with them. They should not even be allowed to run for office or to serve our country in any way, i.e. Hawley and Cruz!!!
