minimalist Federal response, dumping all the responsibility on the States. So, why shouldn't Biden resort to traditional methods, using Federal medical health workers to set up mobile tents, sweeping the country to make sure everyone gets vaccinated?
This way we can put a kabash on the good ole boy patronage methods, and will avoid missing vaccines that someone decided to sell to the private sector.

(5,528 posts)Delegation could have worked even though I don't think it was the best idea. But they never actually delegated authority. They simply dumped it on them at the last minute when they realized they didn't have a plan. Proper delegation of authority would have required just as much if not more planning. Clearly this was not done. Time and time again we heard from the states about them not knowing what to expect or when.
This was abrogation of authority. A complete failure to address something that was their responsibility.
It is my belief that the FED should run this and it should be outside of the regular delivery method. It was fine to use existing hospitals for delivering the vaccine to their own medical staff but it is lunacy to think that they can scale up the way we need to happen. Same with pharmacies. I get my flu shot at the pharmacy and it works great. But they have the capacity to do about 50 a day without scaling up. Those places already have jobs and won't be able to get it done.
We need public spaces converted to clinics; stadiums, convention centers, concert halls, gymnasiums, etc. I am hearing about these kinds of operations sporadically but I it is really inconsistent.
The limitation should be manufacturing. If we can't inject it as fast as they can make it then it will be a massive failure.

(25,861 posts)There are places out in the western half of the country that are very lightly populated, and getting to all of those people, assuming they are all willing to get the vaccine, won't be that easy. Plus, many poor people have no reliable transportation.
Plus, I don't think you can call setting up mobile tents a traditional method of administering vaccines. What needs to happen with this goes far beyond the mass Salk Polio vaccinations of the mid-50s.
