A small town seethes after learning one of its own says he joined Capitol's mob

By John Woodrow Cox, Hannah Natanson and Julie Tate
Jan. 15, 2021 at 10:00 p.m. EST

ABERDEEN, Md. — The young man’s gleeful declaration began spreading through his neighbors’ Facebook feeds Jan. 7, the day after President Trump incited a mob of rabid followers to invade the U.S. Capitol. The post’s author announced he had been among them.

“Yeah, I stormed the Capitol. Yeah, I took my country back,” Christian Trabert, dressed in a red, white and blue snow cap, wrote above a photo of himself and five friends standing outside, his finger pointed toward the building’s Corinthian columns. “And no, I don’t feel bad. I feel great!”

When Linda Iser looked at the image and who had posted it, she struggled to process what she was seeing. Hundreds of young men had taken part in the deadly insurrection, but this one was from her community, the place in Maryland she had called home for half a century. Trabert, 24, had even gone to the same school as her two daughters, Aberdeen High. She felt ashamed, but also indignant, because of who Trabert is: the son of Aberdeen’s police chief.

Trabert, a one-time aspiring model who has not been charged in connection with the riot, didn’t respond to requests for an interview. But his mother and brother insisted that he didn’t actually enter the Capitol and had done nothing wrong.

Iser, and dozens of others who saw the Facebook post, weren’t convinced of that, and it seemed to her that Trabert believed he could get away with whatever he’d done because of his dad’s job. She was determined to make sure he didn’t, joining a group of local activists who bombarded the police department’s Facebook page with comments demanding to know if one of their own had been involved — and what the people in charge were going to do about it.

It’s so interesting how putrid Repukes brag and brag. When they get called on it, it’s always not what they actually said. No video or text message is proof anymore.

When you are on the wrong side of history, I guess lying (and denial) is a way of life.

I know a guy who was in the mob at the front of the Capital. Yeah he's a Trumpet I dumped him from social 2 years ago. But a friend showed me his video from the riot which he had posted

I coached football with the guy and years ago he asked me to write a letter of reccomendation so he could get a high school head coaching position. Again this was years ago before Trump made him ugly.

He didn't get the job but I feel like a jerk for that letter

Lots of stories like that. I have some myself. Not our fault. They chose their path.

A wealthy father wanted to get his daughter into a prestigious New England college. He repeatedly badgered the President to write a letter to the Admissions Office. The Pres, wanting to keep him as a good donor, resisted politely saying it would not be appropriate, "I don't know your daughter", "the admissions office is very independent", etc.

Finally he gave in and was able to truthfully tell the donor every time he called, "Yes, I did write to Admissions, I hope it helps".

The letter said:
"Dear Dean of Admissions________;
"I don't know a damn thing about SuzyQ, but her father is a real pain in the ass."
Please inform me about whatever your decision is"
Yours truly, etc.
---------------------------------------
I know this to be a true story because my GF at the time worked in the Admissions Office and showed me the letter! This was in about 1975.

That's what this movement is and what these people are. And the sooner we deal with it, the better. The longer we wait, the greater the chance our country does not survive.

I can't guarantee it, but last year I found out that said friend went to Sturgis specifically to say "fuck you" to the lockdowns. And then I play Switch games with him on occasion and noticed that he hasn't logged in in the last 10 days. Hmmm...

I know he listens to far right podcasts and was very much a Trumpster. It would not surprise me if he was involved in some way or even the planned ones at the state capitals. The plot thickens.

Though there was a recently seated local school board member here that I posted about a couple months ago that was spotted at the insurrection.

Oh and this woman bragged about being there on social media and now there's a recall petition out.
