Has not been tested. Its just a theory, right? If trump were to do so it seems clear it would end up in the Supreme Court. Im certainly not happy with judges he installed but theyve shown a willingness to defy him. And certainly the types of crimes hes committed ought to ensure they are careful with the precedent theyd be issuing. After all we now have a Dem president. He might do much worse things than have an affair.

(3,213 posts)There is really no Constitutional or logical basis to allow a self-pardon. It would make a President a King, completely above the law which defies the foundation of our system of government.
The Supreme Court would have to invoke their inner fascism to allow it.

If Trump tries a self pardon and gets away with it, a future president could go in with a plan for treason and other "high crimes" with a plan for a self pardon when people start to scream. Boy, a;;owing a self-pardon would be making a tyrant.
