The monster that Trump created doesn’t need him anymore.

For months, president Donald Trump’s message to his supporters was clear:The election was being stolen from him, and they needed to fight to take it back.

So on January 6, during a Trump-promoted rally to “Stop the Steal,” thousands laid siege to the US Capitol in a stunning attempt to do just that. The fallout of their failed insurrection, which resulted in five deaths, was swift: Trump was de-platformed from nearly every major social network and, on Wednesday, impeached for a historic second time.

When he emerged on camera a short while later, tail tucked between his legs, to condemn the rioters whom he himself had incited, and to call for a peaceful transfer of power to president-elect Joe Biden, his base felt betrayed.

“So he basically just sold out the patriots who got rounded up for him,” one person wrote in a 15,000-member pro-Trump Telegram group. “Just wow.”

1. They went down the rabbit hole a while ago, now they are just finding new tunnels

As I’ve posted elsewhere- do not underestimate these people. Many are very well trained and equipped. They are what a military leader would love - they aren’t in this for fame only for their own glory. It’s personal and that is next to impossible to change. I hope all those guardsmen are ready and I hope someone is aware that they may have to give a command they don’t want to.

long before Trump and will continue without him. He was only their public mouthpiece to bring their views and agendas into the mainstream.

4. Some will turn on Trump for this, no doubt, but...

...I'm not sure how high a percentage it will be. Trump supporters have a nearly infinite capacity to rationalize things. I'm sure many just think he's playing 5-dimensional chess while plotting his next "brilliant" move.

5. They'll crawl back into the slimy muck they came from, until...

they find their next political "white savior".

In the mean time, it is key that a 14th Amendment law be passed that specifies that Trump may never run for office again, and to convict and jail every identifiable participant and planner of the Capitol riot, and finally to oust from Congress those who are found to have abetted the rioters.

That would be a good start.
