Pentagon Confirms Military Will Not Hold Traditional Farewell Ceremony for Trump

Defense One reports that the Pentagon confirms the military will not hold a farewell ceremony for President Donald Trump, as it has for past presidents.

The outlet, which focuses on national security issues, broke the news that Trump won’t be getting the traditional sendoff in a scathing commentary by Executive Editor Kevin Baron:

The Pentagon, in a break with recent tradition, will not host an Armed Forces Farewell tribute to President Donald Trump.

It’s a shame, but not a surprise. Trump will leave office in disgrace, one week after the House voted a second time for his impeachment, two weeks after his supporters staged a deadly siege in the Capitol Building, six months after he dragged his Joint Chiefs chairman into a political firestorm, and after four years of nonstop assaults on truth. One of those disgraces is how he is ghosting the U.S. troops that he commanded.

On Wednesday, the White House announced that this weekend Vice President Mike Pence “will deliver remarks to sailors on the Trump Administration’s historic foreign policy achievements at Naval Air Station Lemoore,” and then to the 10th Mountain Division, in Fort Drum, New York. Two senior defense officials confirmed to Defense One on Thursday that no military farewell is being planned for the commander in chief.

45. Trump wants to fly in Air Force One to Mar-A-Lago before the inauguration

so he won't leave Washington as ex-president. He also doesn't want to ask Biden to use Air Force One to get to Florida. I guess he doesn't understand that "Air Force One" is the call sign of any aircraft carrying the president, and not the airplane itself.

Usually, the ex-president is flown by helicopter from the Capitol to Andrews, where there is an regular aircraft -- not the 747 with all its fancy electronics for security stuff -- waiting to take him where ever he wants to go. Obama, for example, wanted to fly to Palm Springs, although because of weather he was diverted to March Air Force Base, about 90 miles west.

Both of these flights -- the helicopter and the jet -- are provided as a courtesy by the new president, and Trump has said he does not want to have to ask Biden to use them. Even to the end Trump is concerned with looking "weak."

However, since Trump is the one ordering Air Force One to Florida, if it's still in the air at noon when Biden takes over the military, the new commander-in-chief has the power to order the aircraft to immediately turn back to Andrews -- and there's not a damned thing Trump can do about it. Oh, and it's no longer Air Force One.

Even better, if Fat Donnie refuses to disembark willingly we'll get to enjoy the scene of him being lead off in handcuffs for trespassing on government property.
Biden's too nice to do such a thing, of course, but it's still fun to think about it.

Also, the pay at that company is dismal.
If they hit the manufacturing sector average of 30% of revenues, that's only $45 million.
They have 1,500 employees. An average of 30,000 a year per employee. And I think we know that he & the VPs aren't making $30k each year.
And with the debt burden (estimating1.5% of revenues), I don't see how they compensation bucket is much higher than average.
It's a crappy company that makes 3rd rate products and this guy gets way too much attention!

Perhaps it’s for the best. Trump has used the military as a political prop since his first days in office, from signing MAGA hats for troops to giving partisan-fueled speeches in the heart of the Pentagon. American’s soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines have been made to stand at attention for Trump’s rants long enough. Besides, presidential visits are an honor and a headache for any military base that hosts them. The last time Trump appeared before troops was the Dec. 12 Army-Navy game at West Point. Before that, there was a brief Oct. 29 private visit with Army special operators at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as he passed through on the presidential campaign trail.
