and tortured and even killed, shows officers are capable of one hell of a lot more restraint than they usually afford minorities. I do want to give the Capital Police credit because I have heard they are perhaps the best force in the country when it comes to dealing with protests because they deal with them all the time. They have incredible training and their training should be a model for the rest of the country when it comes to dealing with protesters. They know how to use restraint and deescalate.

They were outnumbered by an armed mob and would have been slaughtered in a firefight if they had opened fire on the mob.

7. I totally agree that peaceful, unarmed

Blacks get murdered by law enforcement officers for no other reason than being Black. Usually the Black murder victim is not armed, but occasionally they are killed for lawful, registered gun ownership because they are a Black person with a gun.

Totally agree that law enforcement bends over backwards to reason with whites and de-escalate very threatening situations with whites when Blacks are killed for far less or nothing at all other than being Black.

But in the DC coup attempt, 500 cops against an armed mob of 40,000 people would be suicidal if they started a firefight by shooting at the mob. Much easier to kill unarmed citizens, especially unarmed Black citizens because systemic racism and social biases will let them do it with impunity unless people rise up against these killings.

But even if the rioters had been armed Blacks instead of armed racists, the cops would not have wanted to risk opening fire with numbers of 500 against 40,000 armed rioters.
