Charles Barkley: Athletes pay more in taxes, 'deserve some preferential treatment' for COVID-19 vacc

Basketball analyst and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley said Thursday that professional athletes should receive preferential treatment when it comes to administering COVID-19 vaccines.

On an episode of "Inside the NBA," Barkley cited the amount of taxes NBA, NFL and NHL players are required to pay as a reason for why he said they should be closer to the front of the line.

"Three hundred million shots, give a thousand to some NBA players, NFL players, hockey players," Barkley said. "Listen, as much taxes as these players pay, they deserve some preferential treatment."

He's a pretty good guy and has his heart in the right place, but sometime he gets on his stream of conciousness rambles and says stupid shit.

Barkley, how about spending some your big bucks getting some poor folks vaccinated? Or is it all about you?

Unfortunately, in our country and most of the world, professional athletes and the sports that they excel at form glue that help hold societies together and give societies a sense of normalcy. I would like to see leagues playing, traveling like they were and referees of games also doing what they had been doing, I believe that would be an important step to us returning to a state of normalcy.
