Pentagon Confirms Military Will Not Hold Traditional Farewell Ceremony for Trump

Defense One reports that the Pentagon confirms the military will not hold a farewell ceremony for President Donald Trump, as it has for past presidents.

The outlet, which focuses on national security issues, broke the news that Trump won’t be getting the traditional sendoff in a scathing commentary by Executive Editor Kevin Baron:

The Pentagon, in a break with recent tradition, will not host an Armed Forces Farewell tribute to President Donald Trump.

It’s a shame, but not a surprise. Trump will leave office in disgrace, one week after the House voted a second time for his impeachment, two weeks after his supporters staged a deadly siege in the Capitol Building, six months after he dragged his Joint Chiefs chairman into a political firestorm, and after four years of nonstop assaults on truth. One of those disgraces is how he is ghosting the U.S. troops that he commanded.

On Wednesday, the White House announced that this weekend Vice President Mike Pence “will deliver remarks to sailors on the Trump Administration’s historic foreign policy achievements at Naval Air Station Lemoore,” and then to the 10th Mountain Division, in Fort Drum, New York. Two senior defense officials confirmed to Defense One on Thursday that no military farewell is being planned for the commander in chief.

And I can attest to a fine military tradition of "dropping trou' " --although not to the commander in chief. I was at language school at the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey in the late 1970s. The barracks were broken up with separate buildings for each service except there was one building that was multi-service and housed all the women. We were one of six platoons from the Army barracks but were the most rowdy and noted for our three day keggers and such. We were always trying to find ways to lure as many of the female contingent as possible to our parties and Christmas was coming up. So over a few (oaky many) drinks we came up with a brilliant plan. With some tempura paints, emboldened with alcohol, a select cadre (mostly the youngest and dumbest amongst us) was formed up and their bare butts appropriately painted with a suitable holiday message. We marched in formation down the hill to outside the ladies' barracks, and with the help of some women who were into our plan, the windows of the barracks were well attended by the residents upon our arrival. In rank formation, with the select cadre in the front rank, we proceeded to sing a Christmas carol to our audience. At the conclusion of our rendition of Jingle Bells, the platoon sergeant proceeded to command the front rank to about face, commanded the rear ranks to take two steps back and then commanded, "front rank, drop trou"! They did so while bending over and an unusual and bawdy presentation of Merry Christmas was displayed with military precision.

For the Trumpster and entourage, I think Good Riddance would be a fine message.
