(12,051 posts)get a dim feeling that maybe storming the Capitol is a bad idea.
That's why I and others have been begging for demonstrations of REALITY, not useless talk, to wake them up a bit.

(54,770 posts)who believe trump did not win in 2016 or the election was stolen.
In fact there were protests after he was elected, charges of Russian changing votes, etc.
Does this sound/look familiar?

Personally, I believe the 2016 protests were justified and weren't as violent, but I guess it depends on what side you are on.

(30,613 posts)The protests were entirely justified, and almost entirely peaceful.

(54,770 posts)But so were Democrats who criticized Obama on things like trade right up to the election, not to mention Democrats who sat home rather than vote for Clinton or sat at home out of complacency.
If troops had been on the steps of the Capitol last week, white wingers would be saying those protests weren't violent either.
Fact is, there were protests in 2016 by people who just couldn't believe their candidate lost, same as 2020. Yeah, if we are comparing protests, I prefer the Democrats too.

(65,203 posts)...saying that as an anonymous poll respondent & taking personal action over it are light years apart.
And, I think it appropriate to revisit that question in 6 months.
Last, the poll with the 90+% number of Rs still supporting PINO is a gross outlier.
Pew shows 64%, Ipsos shows 71%, Gallup shows 72.
And those polls were all of people who voted for trump.
Three different professional pollsters have the number at 72 or less, and another is 96 or so? Highly unlikely to be accurate.

Monday is a federal holiday, so there might not be a lot of activity tomorrow either.
They want the most carnage possible. Tuesday and Wednesday have always been the days of most concern.
My main concern now is for smaller towns that don't have a major security plan in place.

(29,322 posts)It is because they are taking the threats seriously. They will be monitoring these groups and shutting down websites and accounts helped a lot.
I expect another 4 months of this before it dies down but this involved members in government so this could be a long term problem.

(37,162 posts)More likely they've expanded their mental list of "traitors" (including, for some, Trump himself), and the extent of the "sobering" is that they've figured out a frontal assault won't work.
But still, it won't be "Nothing happens on 1/20/21" until it's 1/21/21.

(65,203 posts)Hundreds of CEOs have signed on to a letter that repudiates the idiot.
Those folks have a lot of influence over market behavior. They're not going to financially self-immolate for a guy they've already repudiated.
Besides the market is only over valued by around 9% above equilibrium. There's no economic fundamentals supporting a massive correction.
And analysts generally become bullish about a democrat in the White House.
