2. On thing the struck me in the mother's response

She said, "I'm not very political." That not only excuses her from addressing the issue of her daughter's criminal behavior, it also casts that behavior as not very serious. This is indicative of a pervasive attitude that political engagement is somehow a pastime, which aficionados choose to involve themselves in, like sports or candle-making. I think we need more political discussion at a person-to-person level in this country, that by making it a social taboo, we leave people to their bubbles. Unlike sports and candle-making, politics affects every moment of our lives, yet we treat talking about it in mixed company like talking about one's bathroom habits.

6. People like that are not interested in the least.

Their eyes glaze over when the subject comes up. Even when they come and ask you about something political they don’t want background or history or the real story. They want a short answer. People like that have no clue that everything is connected to politics.

They also like to dismiss the whole subject by saying that both sides do it. At that point it’s just nuts to keep talking. Facts only confuse them.

Talking politics with people who aren’t interested in anything political is like a mechanic trying to explain the intricacies of a car’s engine when all you want to know is if they can fix it.

5. I'm gonna guess 'tried to sell it to Russia' is going to end up being a very stupid plot

Like, she knows somebody who lives in Russia (which seems to be the story). That's it. That's her whole plan.

9. Trump's last set of executions including men that committed crimes when they were teens

I love it when the mother says she's 22. Funny when white people are commit crimes, their age is an excuse. When its black folks, age doesn't matter at all.
