US Capitol illuminated in pillars of light.

A total of 56 pillars, representing 50 states and U.S. territories, surrounded the US Capitol and the National Mall ahead of Democratic President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

If Trump had ordered it it would have been uncomfortable.

in the “Darkness to Light” memorial for those who died in the COVID-19 pandemic?

I don’t know that it’s being promoted everywhere, but in my city (Chicago) residents and businesses are being asked to turn out their lights and all electronics after the conclusion of the Biden/Harris memorial event in D.C. (here, at 6 pm Central). During the ten minutes of darkness, you’re invited to light a candle and go outside, if possible. And then, at the end of the ten minute memorial, to turn the lights back on: a symbolic message of Returning to the Light.

I think it is a nice gesture of remembrance and a symbol of the light we hope lies ahead. Check your own area to see if it’s happening there.

The Biden/ Harris Inauguration has issued the following for national, but maybe various cities, such as mine, are adding their own touches.

https://bideninaugural.org/covidmemorial/

The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) is hosting a memorial to remember and honor the lives lost to COVID-19. On January 19 at 5:30pm (local time), we invite Americans across the country to come together for a national moment of unity and remembrance.
Get Involved
– Light a candle in your window and join fellow Americans for this national moment of remembrance.

– Light up city buildings at 5:30 local time in a light amber color.

– Ring a bell at 5:30pm ET on January 19 during the national ceremony to join us in a collective moment of remembrance.

– Tune in on January 19 at 5:30pm ET for a ceremony with President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Harris, featuring the first-ever lighting of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to honor those who have died.

– Join our Facebook event to get the latest updates and share the word and invite your family, friends, and loved ones to join us for the COVID-19 Memorial.

Everything Biden has done so far they’ve done with class. Despite a military lockdown, they’ve brightened up the place visible for miles around.

Artistic as well as symbolic. Well done, Joe and Jill and Ron Klain.

What a wonderful display! So sad what it represents. But there's still hope. Never give up on hope.
