From CNN's Jeff Zeleny
President-elect Joe Biden will fly to Washington today on a private aircraft, yet another change in protocol on the eve of his inauguration.
CNNs Peter Morris spotted two Sun Country aircraft at the Delaware National Guard airfield, where Biden is scheduled to depart
A person familiar with the matter confirmed to CNN that Biden was not taking a US government plane to Joint Base Andrews for the first stop of his inauguration festivities.
"Hes flying private," the source said, declining to say whether the government did not offer Biden a plane.
A second source familiar with the matter said the government did not offer the Bidens a plane, but did not have details.

(65,134 posts)He's not president yet, and there's no national emergency.
Getting a military plane is a courtesy extended by the outgoing administration.
That courtesy requires a sense of decorum, dignity, & class. Sorely lacking this time.

(14,160 posts)Especially if the travel area is impossible to prescreen for harm or danger.
Stopping a shoulder launched anti-tank missile from crashing through a window of the train car Biden and family were in would be a nightmare.
There are miles and miles of train tracks were someone could be in wait and hiding among the trees ready to launch a rocket or missile.

(11,686 posts)The other day they said something about moving the inauguration practice to Monday for security reasons. If it is for security reasons why are they announcing it to everybody?

(65,134 posts)It's around 90 miles. I've driven from Philly to Dover, then to DC.
I remember it being under an hour & a half by car.

(3,282 posts)Maybe some of that time is waiting for a runway. I bet Biden's plane wouldn't have to do that at Andrews.

(10,143 posts)between doing something gracious, traditional, and good for the country and acting like an entitled, selfish brat, Trumps will always choose the latter.
This is up there with Mel refusing to meet with the Bidens at the White House. Sure, moving days can be hectic and chaotic, but having some coffee and chatting would take less than an hour of her precious ME!-time.

These sorts of moves need to be met with an overwhelming sense of letting Trump and those who would follow him know that after noon on the 20th of January 2021 Trump has absolutely NO INFLUENCE or STANDING on the activities of the United State's Government.
Including, the reports of his attempts to assert himself in the media.
He's a pretender.
