I've seen these old rich guys deal with adversity before. They always claim there is a second act, something in the works, etc., and little or nothing happens. Trump will find it extremely difficult to hold rallies now that raising money is more difficult and there is no plausible reason to do so. Starting a new party is hard and he doesn't like hard work. We just might see him fade away.

(11,824 posts)...Plus, with everything he is going to be dealing with when the Cyrus Vance comes calling, I don't think he'll have much time to think about anything else.

Or if he lives that long, he'll be an invalid and/or totally consumed by dementia.

(11,824 posts)...I don't wish bad things for him, or anyone in the Trump family, but I don't wish them well either. I guess Baron gets a pass because he's just a kid, but I am aggressively indifferent about ever seeing another Trump on my television. Or in the news. Or where ever.

(25,816 posts)That's a good chunk of his base. He'll have about as much of a political future as Pence.
In other words, he's done. His brand is ruined. And the law suits haven't even begun.

(65,213 posts)The power of the presidency is gone. His opinion on every matter is no longer important.
And, how he feels about things is irrelevant to what will occur, because he's had his fangs pulled.
He's just a guy that lost.
Geez, even some of the radical right have tossed him aside.
And, R power brokers have been ignoring him for 2 months.
His supporters will lose interest, the powers that be will no longer see him useful, and the RW media will have the new administration to flail. Propping him up will be priority 98.
He's going to fade, and I think sooner than most people estimate.

(5,502 posts)I think he'll pop up here and there but he'll never be more than a novelty. Had he conceded and cooperated and not tried to overthrow the government, I think he could have had a strong post-presidency.

(1,789 posts)Whatever pathetic comeback attempt he has planned will be hampered by the time and financial constraints of practically living in a court room. He has many trials awaiting him for the stuff we know about, there may even be more stuff uncovered now that he no longer can manipulate the Department of Justice.

(42,289 posts)He has been tossed to the curb by some of the Q-nuts and more will realize they were conned. He hasn't the energy to start up anything and none of his family have the star-power to pull it off.
And then there is the financial and legal mess ahead for him....

(83 posts)his future will be similar to those of disgraced evangelical preachers. He might get a show in Branson, MO selling some kind of dietary supplements that are sure to protect against viruses. It will probably be based on "top secret" information he learned as president that "they" didn't want anyone else to know about.

(7,531 posts)Funny since the office ages but he didn't do anything so it must be something else. He is in bad shape physically and mentally. And he wasn't great to start with. The ultimate rejection of losing and his comfort food and comfort rage obsessions will make it worse. I doubt if he lives another five years.
MineralMan
(146,335 posts)He's old and tired. I can relate to that, being just a year older than he is.
He is going to face some very serious financial issues very soon now. Worse, he's not going to be able to borrow funds, since he owes far more than his actual net worth. As President, he got a temporary pass on some of his debt, but that's over now.
Donald J. Trump is poison to lenders at this point. They want to be repaid and they want to be repaid now. Trump can't repay. All of his real estate assets are leveraged beyond their value.
Politically, I think he has lost any credibility he might possible have had. His four years as President were a complete disaster. Many supported him only because he held the office. Now he does not. He is a very high maintenance politician with very high negatives overall.
He has never had any loyalty to those who put their loyalty to him on the line. He burned many bridges on mere whims. Those who claimed loyalty to him did so only because he held power. Now that he does not, he can do nothing for those people.
I think he will quietly slip out of the public eye. Personally, I do not see him being alive in 2024. I don't think he will survive his sharp comedown.
Trump is finished, I believe.

(9,896 posts)My firm belief is that he will not be back. His power right now is zilch, as it came only from actually being the President. I'm way more concerned about the smarter Trump lurking out there. We got lucky, if you want to call it that, that Trump is so incompetent and unable to get his personality out of his own way. He's given a lot of workable ideas to those who are better able to make things happen their way.

(25,983 posts)Big Money has dropped him like a rock. He's of no real use to Putin any more, deep in debt, facing serious civil and criminal charges from NY state and others, and there's a good chance his second impeachment will end in conviction after some highly revealing and embarrassing hearings and testimony.
He might be able to squawk for a while if Twitter is stupid enough to lift his suspension, but even if that happens, there isn't a lot he can say that matters now that his political power is gone.
If we're really lucky, he might even go to jail.
He's done. Good riddance.
