Rep. John Katko-R: US Capitol attack was 'much worse than people realized'

https://www.syracuse.com/politics/2021/01/rep-john-katko-us-capitol-attack-was-much-worse-than-people-realized.html

Washington – Rep. John Katko says he has received intelligence briefings that suggest the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol was more than a spontaneous attack by an angry mob.

Katko, the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, said the briefings raised serious questions about how much planning went into the attack and the security lapses that allowed rioters to reach the House and Senate chambers.

Snip

“There are a lot of unanswered questions here, from possible security lapses to who was involved and when they were involved,” Katko said. “We need to have a full stem to stern look back on this to see what happened, how it happened, the sequence of events, who contributed to it, and how we make sure it never happens again."

We need 2 parties:

Moderate dems; &

Progressive Dems.

Repukes have always demonstrated a gross disdain for democratic ideals. Not sure why their "party" is not deemed as terrorist org., to be honest.

It is beyond me how any sane person could remain aligned with a "party" who wants to censure even private citizens for stating factual truths. Cindy McCain, for example.

I've not heard any right-wing outrage or anything from McCain or Cheney regarding these threats to besmirch their reputations, have you?

The FBI needs to dig into this and ferret it out. Intel agencies need to be deeply involved and Congressional hearings are a must.

A Special Council would be advisable too.

Syracuse police officer Wallie Howard, Jr. I wonder what the "Thin Blue Line" loving crowd (i.e., MAGATs) in Onondaga County think about that? Oh, wait! Officer Howard was black. Oops! Major conflict with their hatred of BLM movement.

https://www.syracuse.com/crime/2021/01/outraged-a-sock-in-gut-prosecutors-us-rep-katko-police-stunned-after-trump-frees-kingpin-in-syracuse-cop-killing.html

Syracuse, NY -- The federal prosecutor who sent a drug kingpin to prison for orchestrating the murder of a Syracuse police officer expressed outrage Wednesday at President Trump’s surprise decision to release him from a life sentence.

“I’m kind of outraged that President Trump has granted him a commutation,” said retired Assistant U.S. Attorney John Duncan, a Republican who handled the trial personally.

Duncan wasn’t the only local official who blasted the outgoing president’s decision to release the mastermind of the slaying of Police Officer Wallie Howard, one of Central New York’s most notorious murders.

U.S. Rep John Katko, Syracuse police Chief Kenton Buckner, former police union president Jeff Piedmonte and Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick expressed similar dismay to Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard this morning.

More:

Katko (R-Camillus), a former federal prosecutor and colleague of Duncan at the time, said that Davidson was responsible for a heinous crime.

“Jaime Davidson was found guilty of orchestrating the brutal murder of Wallie Howard, a decorated Central New York police officer,” Katko said. “I completely disagree with the president’s decision to commute the sentence for this heinous crime. Davidson is a criminal who should have served out his life sentence.”

A large number - probably a majority - consider themselves either military, or paramilitary. That kind of person plans, and there were aspects of the day that seemed pretty coordinated.

That being said, it's a damned good thing that these people don't do this "for real" (in the ACTUAL military), because they can't plan a bar fight.
