Do you think there were 400,000 sparks of light in the fireworks?
Seeing the President and Vice-President and their spouses on the balcony of the White House I felt relief and joy as Katy Perry sang "Firework" - it was, as President Biden said, an inaugural celebration for the American people.
This morning, as I rewatched Perry singing with the 400 memorial lights behind her and the fireworks exploding just beyond, I burst into tears. So many sparks of light as the show went on and on.
I don't really need to know if 400,000 is a realistic estimate, I find it heartbreaking and comforting to think that this it's so. We have to remember to heal.
