4. McConnell is trying to maintain the long con and Trump is clearly a threat to that order.

Regardless on the outcome of the Senate impeachment vote, McConnell knows Trump will be facing the entire resources of the USG through the DOJ will be brought to bear. His criming lifetime is about to see the bill come due and no amount of cash will fix it.

And I'd like to see a new team of Secret Service personnel be assigned to Trump and the family. I'll be fine with the new AG's deciding the best agents for the job. I want their eyes and ears to monitor the Family's actions....he was Commander of Insurrection on 1/6/2021

And they accepted him as long as he was useful. As his support drains away the rethug party will decide he’s more of a liability. Especially if he really starts making moves to establish a new party. Unfortunately he won’t have a chance to do that before the trial. I do think in the long run he’ll destroy the party but I think that’s going to take awhile. He’d be railing against the party right now if he was still on Twitter.
