(Oh but the LIBERALS are destroying the First Amendment, GTFOH!!!)
Producers at "Jeopardy!" are reportedly worried Katie Couric's recent remarks about Donald Trump and his supporters will turn off the show's largely conservative audience.
The former "Today" host who's set to take over as a guest presenter on the trivia show in the wake of Alex Trebek's death joined Bill Maher for a discussion about former President Donald Trump's legacy on the Jan. 15 edition of "Real Time."
During her appearance, Couric expressed frustration with congressional Republicans who she said seem to be, "believing the garbage that they are being fed 24/7 on the internet, by their constituents, and they bought into this big lie."
Couric added, "And the question is how are we going to really almost deprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump."

(5,954 posts)The REAL story should be, WHY is the 'conservative media ecosystem' reporting that "liberals want to send Trump supporters to DEPROGRAMMING CAMPS," when liberals are NOT saying that. The contrived MOUNTAINOUS culture wars faux scandal has been created from the MOLE HILL of Katie Couric saying THIS...
Then, simply play a clip of what Couric actually said, back to back with clips of what Hannity, Carlson, Ingraham etc. have TURNED IT INTO.
Literally, that's what the yacking heads on Fox News are saying. That liberal Democrats want to send Trump supporters to re-education camps. The REAL news media should be concentrating on how the right wing spin machine is doing the actual BRAINWASHING...and THIS is how they DO it!

(2,636 posts)Conservatives are a shrinking, aging minority.
There are at least 7 million more of us than there are of them. Worry about what we think.

(5,954 posts)HALF of those people were extremists that simply wanted to scrap democracy (using some obscure, Glen Beck style interpretation of the Constitution---electoral college, VP discounting electoral college votes etc), and just make a permanent 'conservative majority' government.
They voted for Trump thinking he'd magically bring that about. Now that they've seen that this isn't within their grasp, a lot of them will fall away from the GOP, and crawl back under their rocks.

(10,202 posts)As much as Im also not happy with some of Ken Jenningss choices of people to publicly associate with, I have to say that after watching him as host for the last two weeks, I think hes the perfect person to carry on for Alex. He is doing very well IMHO right out of the gate, and will only get better at it as time goes on.

Keep your conservative viewers and lose your sponsors!
It's OK though. Trump will make up the difference! He's a smart businessman, haven't you heard? And he's a billionaire! And he always pays his debts!

(1,962 posts)What's been overlooked with all the griping about Ken Jennings' tweets, and now Couric unloading on Drumpf, is that Pat Sajak has posted many controversial things - from the right, of course - on his own Twitter over the years. While there's no question that Ken totally missed the mark and swung and missed on some of his attempts at humor, it does feel to me like Sony, the production staffs of both shows (of which there is some overlap) and the media has made far more of an issue of those who attack Drumpf (Jennings and Kouric) than they have over good ol' Republican Sajak and his tweets.
Gee. A double standard? I would've never guessed...
Mind you, Sajak has come nowhere close to going Full Chuck Woolery (tip: never go Full Woolery), and his Twitter account is far less horrifying than the Fucking Chuck Woolery Shitshow. But I'm rapidly getting frustrated over "Ken tweeted this!" and "Couric said that!" while Sajak's tweets are being overlooked, and no one is calling for his job.

(266 posts)I've been on Jeopardy! and I'm a big fan and I'm a leftie. Most of my friends who are also fans are, likewise, liberal. (That makes sense to me, since it is my observation that smart people tend toward liberalism.) I hadn't heard Katie Couric was being considered as a replacement, either. I'm still hoping for Levar Burton as the new Alex.

(6,251 posts)I've been watching the show since the Art Fleming days. I really don't think that Trump conservatives watch the show, because it requires knowledge and intelligence. Perhaps old school business Republicans might watch, but not the MAGA crowd. They're more the Wheel of Fortune types.
And I'm hoping for Levar Burton, too!

(54,014 posts)To them, the questioning and learning and analyzing of clues that makes Jeopardy fun is the same "muscle" in the brain that allows them to see through the plots of the Illuminati/Lizardians as they corrupt the Deep State into hiding their liberal child slavery pizza basement ring. Or something. Trust me, before they get to the conspiracy theory cognitive dissonance, they first have to master the "Trump is a devout Christian" cognitive dissonance first.
Bucky
(54,014 posts)The problem is the phrase "deprogram these people". It's true, of course, but it's also insulting to the people who were suckered by the big orange con artist. There's no reason why the show's sponsors should feel obliged to take a hit like that.
