A Poll that was inspired by another OP.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=14993113 is the post.

So what do you feel is better to be called?

It is intended to suggest he expects/requires a certain type of behavior.

I always try to look them in the eye and gently say "I ain't no lady".

If they don't understand I just suggest they think about it and perhaps discuss with their sister(s), or female children if they are fortunate enough to have same, why it is not his place to dictate behavior of more than half the world's population.

Can't believe anyone needs to have this conversation in the 21st century.

Neither word is intrinsically objectionable.

When I was in grad school in early 70’s, it seemed important to drop the word lady because (believe it or not) a lot of people found it difficult to actually say the word “woman.” I know this seems incredible, but just think of the change in attitude in the past several years about using the word “vagina.”

Interesting to see this is still a live issue.

Maybe things haven’t changed as much as I thought, and this whole thing has to be fought over again?

I wouldn't want to be called a lady, for the most part. Especially by men. I also feel that women do have a certain language among themselves in this respect.

DU skews old, so most are probably more comfortable with the application of the term. To me, it seems antiquated.

Used to "put you in your place." I have, several times. You learn to hate it.
