... the thoughts and feelings .. associated with him .. began to shift. And it was no longer about being a successful businessman ... In the last two years of his presidency, his brand has stood for .. divisiveness .. misogyny .. xenophobia, and .. racism all of these things that hes demonstrated ...
... there are really three strong drivers of brand strength: trust, brand love .. and .. respect ... the loss of trust and love and respect .. we in marketing call .. negative spillover ... My prediction is that he will try to reinvent himself ...
With presidents, when they leave office, people tend to be more forgiving over time ... I dont think thats going to happen ... He cant .. stay out of the focus of attention. Hes gonna keep .. trying to get attention, and youre not going to get this effect where attitudes become weaker ... Your brand is not just you, its also your customers ...
One way to do this would be to have .. family members join politics and use their .. runs as perpetual fundraising mechanisms. However, that may narrow his appeal to mainstream consumers ...
... The expectation, prior to the violence .. was that the .. brand would remain a strong brand .. transitioning into .. the media side of the entertainment world ... If he is officially labeled a seditionist, then all the normal channels of brand-building are no longer open to him ...

(3,784 posts)He thought that by simply running, he could increase visibility and interest, and it would result in more people buying his crap. He never intended to win. I think the original plan was to announce his candidacy, go on the campaign trail for a few weeks, and then after the initial fervor died down and he naturally settled down to about 5th or so in the polls, he'd drop out and let the money roll in.
My theory is that he figured he'd shoot up to the top spot immediately after announcing (as most candidates do), he'd ride that wave for a while, then say a few unsavory things, and he'd drop down to the point where he could quietly drop out. He never expected his popularity to stay high, and I don't think he expected his unsavory comments to not only go unnoticed, but be widely applauded among a group of what turned out to be blind sycophants. I think this is the point where the Russians stepped in.
Again, just my theory, but I think the Russians saw an opportunity, and came to him and said, "Listen, we know you owe more money to the Russian mob than you'll ever be able to pay back, so here's what's going to happen. You're going to run for President. We've already got the voting machines rigged so you'll win. And after you're in office, you're going to do the bidding of Vladimir Putin. Do that, and your debt to the Russian mob is paid."
I absolutely love the fact that as a result of what was originally nothing more than a publicity stunt (everyone knows by now that that little ride down the escalator happened because NBC refused to make him the highest-paid celebrity on the network), his "brand" is in the toilet, his name is poison, and he more likely than not will end up in prison. I hope his creditors leave him without a dime and his children, being stripped of their inheritance, have to go get actual jobs just to pay the bills.

(5,008 posts)I dont see that happening again. Only reason he ran is because Obama embarrassed him (during that roast). He decided he was going to show Obama and ruined his own life. I hope he is miserable every single day that he has left on this earth. He is the reason over 400,000 are dead. I want him to lose everything that is important to him.
