Honestly, the best case scenario is that another media outlet hires her because the NYT is just garbage right now.

(6,089 posts)I still have memories of Judith Miller who seems to have been resurrected in Maggie Haberman who I cannot tolerate for one minute. They are now and have been trash. They fully assisted the dumpshit in his election and now let's all clutch our pearls because Joe Biden wears a Rolex. Jesus Fucking Christ. Wipe your ass with this piece of newsprint.

(4,438 posts)and stand tall. She probably was constantly making excuses and explaining to people, and herself, how the hell she could work for NYT in the first place. Of course, it's all about the money. But dirty money is hard to take for decent people. Some people have even resorted to suicide because of it. I wonder how long she was under their thumb.

It's like the NYT team has taken over the trifling "tan suit" twitter beat.
Those NYT twitter asshats need to be fired. They make the NYT look second rate.

Inside the NY Times Probes Threatening a Star Reporters Career
IN THE BALANCE
Sources told The Daily Beast that the two internal investigations into Callimachis work have turned up potentially damaging emails and further complaints about her conduct.

ISIS reporting
Caliphate
The serialized audio documentary Caliphate, first released in April 2018, follows Callimachi as she reports on the Islamic State, and the accounts of Abu Huzaifa al-Kanadi, who claimed to have murdered people while fighting for the Islamic State, and since returned to Canada where he was living freely.[14][15][16] The podcast won a Peabody Award in the radio/podcast category that year.[17] Her work on Caliphate also made her a Pulitzer Finalist again, "[f]or dissecting the power and persistence of the ISIS terror movement, through relentless on-the-ground and online reporting, and masterful use of podcast storytelling."[18]
In May 2018, the reliability of Huzaifa's story had received concerns from television journalist Diana Swain of CBC News, who suggested that he may be "lying" to The New York Times.[19] In September 2020, the Canadian Abu Huzaifa whose real name was Shehroze Chaudhry, was arrested by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and charged under Canadian hoax laws for fabricating his story on social media of traveling to Syria and joining ISIS, which was covered by the Caliphate podcast produced by The New York Times. His case is ongoing.[20][21][22] In response to criticism of Caliphate's depiction of Chaudry's story, the Times announced on September 30 that the paper would begin a "fresh examination" of the series' reporting.[23]
In December 2020, The New York Times admitted that much of the podcast had been based on bad information, that significant errors had been made at the newspaper, and that the Caliphate "podcast as a whole should not have been produced with Mr. Chaudhry as a central narrative character."[24][25] Callimachi was reassigned as a result.[26] On December 18, 2020, the Times also announced that, in view of the results of its investigation, it will return the Peabody Award which had been won by the Caliphate podcast.[27]

(9,956 posts)... the NYT wants to promote that they have "objective" reporters. There might be something in a contract she violated? If she had said something about weeping for America as Trump left the White House, wouldn't she would be in the same trouble? What I don't like about this is the fact that some of us are not allowed to have a "social media" presence - you have to watch what you say. It's like you have to hire a lawyer to go over every post. But Trump is allowed to lead an attack on the US government!
... was the Rolex watch story a column? There will be plenty of subtle (and not subtle) anti-Biden columns. I think most people figure he's a successful - and wealthy - politician. I recall Bernie getting some of the same attention, for his wealth. It did not stick. They are not billionaires, but they are richer than the average person. It's not a surprise. Probably, it makes Trumpsters see them as "elite" - but I don't think it sticks.

Keith Olbermann was fired from MSNBC for campaign contributions.
Apparently Olbermann was reinstated when a bunch of viewers started a petition to get him back on the air.

(9,899 posts)The LA Times was fairly balanced until the Chandler family sold out.

(90,690 posts)...Dr Patrick Soon-Shiong a couple of years ago and has been on an upward trajectory ever since. Hes added tremendous diversity to the staff, is paying attention to news of importance to the many ethnic communities of Los Angeles, and covers the region well. In addition he has once again made it a major newspaper for national and international news.
If I sound like a fan, its because Ive literally been reading the LA Times my whole life, since all I could read was the headlines and the comics section. When the Chandlers sold, it was a blow to watch the quality decline the new owners decided all they really needed to cover was the city itself and that the citys major industry was in Hollywood, so they had a big section called The Biz. My gods.
I love what it has become since 2018. Im not looking for a left-wing slant to my news, I am looking for objectivity, insofar as that is possible, and a humane point of view. I can take it from there.
