One can hope that a boom will occur sometime thereafter, but nothing will ever be the same.

(19,247 posts)Not so much to shop (the only store I like there anymore is Barnes and Noble), but my daughter is hitting the tween years and she's craving malls. Usually I managed to drag along another parent along with their kid so the girls could do their thing while we had adult conversation and coffee. When it's -20F outside, walking MOA is one of the only comfortable places to get a mile or two in for exercise outside a gym. That and I like remembering all the fun times we had there when she was little, building in Lego Land and riding rides at Nickelodeon Amusement Park.

(3,445 posts)The parking lot is full almost every day (and yes, I live in a city/state that has an alarming number of covid cases, but everything's open--thank you, GOP governor ). Just in the last week, 4 stores have been announced as closed or closing--Godiva would make 5. From what I've heard in this situation, the mall owners have raised the rent to the point that it's not feasible to continue. The shopping center next door has lost tenants as well for the same reason. But yet, we're scheduled to have a HUGE shopping/entertainment/resident center built across the street from the mall with shopping, restaurants, 400 apartments, and 2 parking garages.
