One of my old friends (a girl I've known since high school) posted the "Police Lives Matter. Who's not afraid to share this?" meme this morning.
I replied, "I hate it when rw bullshit shows up on my FB feed."
She responded, "I just thought we should support police."
I said, ""Police Lives Matter" is just a racist response to "Black Lives Matter". It has nothing to do with supporting police."
She said, "Oh, I see." And then she deleted her original post, deleting the thread.

If anything shows that "blue lives matter" was just a nasty slogan, it's that.

Is not an admission of error.
It's nearly as passive aggressive as
"Bless your heart"

(8,916 posts)I use the response that the original post used.
So next time someone tells me "Blue Lives Matter", my response will be:
"Blue lives don't exist, because there are no humans born with BLUE skin.
That's a job. Black Lives Matter, because it dealing with people born with black skin.
Your statement is a racist response to Black Lives Matter."

(53,410 posts)Too many words and actual thought behind them.
Now if you can boil that down to 3 words max and make it sound like a slogan you have something theyll understand.

(57,097 posts)My Trumpist MiL thinks the death figure for covid are manipulated.
She's says a lot of the deaths are mislabeled, that cancer etc is what did it.
I asked her if I'm going to die of cancer next week and I get covid first and die, what did I die of?
She said, "Cancer", a because that would have gotten me and I would have survived covid if I hadn't been weakened by the cancer.
I asked her what if I was at the hospital, got covid and knowing I was dying of cancer walked out the door and was run over by an ambulance - what killed me, cancer, covid or the ambulance.
The light came on.
She asked if cancer death rates came down as covid death rates jumped. And I told her specifically with cancer possibly a percentage point or so. That the death rate showed about 300,000 unexpected deaths last year.
Another light came on.

(14,811 posts)Right above some long diatribe she had reposted supporting the rioters.
This was my reply;
"Did the policeman's live who was killed during the Capitol riot matter? It's hard to tell since you posted support for the killers right below this. You can't have it both ways."
I doubt I'll hear anything from her though.

(8,916 posts)so it might not even be a percentage point.
Also, not all COVID deaths had conditions that would probably kill them. Alway a possibility, but most, probably not.

(28,798 posts)a long-time close friend, back in 2014, responded to my posting "Black Lives Matter" with "all lives matter." at the time I did not hit her up about it, but in 2020, SHE posted a long meme about BLM, including why "all lives matter" is a racist response to it. so, with or without my help, she's grown. I feel good about that even if i only played a small part.
That's exactly why when people ask me not to post political stuff, my stock answer is I'm not stopping. I'm raising consciousness.

That does not mean we have to agree with everything they do but they still are our community's employees and they are public servants. It's also un-American to turn a blind eye to bad police behavior and blindly "support" them.
If the normal channels for objecting to police behavior do not work, then we have duty to peacefully protest.
Sometimes, simple logical perspective stops a lot of bullshit.
