Trump's niece, Mary, says she is 'prepared' to change her last name in a bid to distance herself fro

Mary Trump, the niece of Former President Donald Trump, has said she might change her last name to avoid being associated with her uncle.

"I am prepared to change my name if need be," she told The Telegraph. She is worried her last name now comes with negative connotations, the clinical psychologist said.

Trump's niece has long sought to distance herself from the former president by publicly criticizing him.

She has previously accused him of being a "narcissist," "a sociopath," and has backed calls for his impeachment.

I can't imagine -- or maybe I can -- how toxic it must be to share a last name with that slime mold.

At least for the time being. Down the road she may need to change it.

I’ve heard that a few times though I don’t think I’ve ever read it anywhere trustworthy. I don’t think it was ever a common name but I think it’s been expunged.

[link:https://allthatsinteresting.com/hitlers-descendants|]

As soon as they knew about their Hitler family history, the three boys made a pact. None of them would have children and the family line would end with them. It also seems that the other Hitler descendants, their cousins in Austria, felt the same way.

When Heiner’s identity was revealed in 2004, there was a question of whether the descendants would receive royalties from Adolf Hitler’s book Mein Kampf. All of the living heirs claim they want no part of it.

those with the name ended up in the US. At some point they changed the name. They also vowed not to have children, so that his line would go out - though actually it's just through his brother. He has no direct descendants.

IMO, she's done a wonderful job of distinguishing herself from the other Trumps, and also redeeming her father's memory by telling his painful story and explaining Fred Jr.'s struggle to differentiate and make an independent life for himself, and how it contributed to his death. If she decided to keep her name, it could be a way of honoring her father's memory, I would think.

She could also take her spouse's last name.

Many of the children of Nazi war criminals kept their names. But I found one who did not: the son of Josef Mengele.

He abandoned the Mengele name in the 1980s, taking his wife’s last name instead to spare his children the burden. He lives in Freiburg, Germany, where he works as an attorney.

There are likely others who changed their names as well, but that's all I could find in a quick Google search.

Mary has married and since divorced, so the option to take her wife's name is probably off the table. In the book, she never names her former wife.

Thanks for the information.

I remember from the book that the wedding in Hawaii had to be postponed, and that no Trumps ever asked her about her relationship, or really anything about her life, but I didn't remember that they were divorced. Sad.

Nothing wrong with that name, in spite of what her grandfather, or whoever the hell it was who changed it, thought. All the more reason to change it back, actually.
