I hear we're being asked to double up on masks or start using masks that are graded N-something. Does anyone know what the numbers were? I know one was the usual, N95, but there was another one that was mentioned. They also showed a picture of a couple of fabric masks with the proper grading. I would like to order some new ones, after I get a chance to read more information on the subject.

(2,195 posts)KN95 which are slightly different than N95,one of the differences is the straps on KN95 are regular ear loops where the N95 has straps that go over the head and some are adjustable in order to make a better fit and more comfortable for long term wearing I get them here

As far as I know these are real N95 masks...
(on edit)
N95 is the top of the line before actual gas masks KN95 is basically the same except for the straps.

(2,386 posts)-KN95 is the Chinese "equivalent' name for the American N95 respirator mask. BUT, BUT there are many fake Chinese KN95 and N95 masks on the market.
The CDC has a long list of 'approved" and EUA masks on its website
-Both N95 and KN95 masks come in versions with ear loops and double 'head straps.' The head strap design IS better.
The Makrite Sekura mask, (in Timewise's link) IS actually, on the CDC approved list for the N-95 masks and they make both types.
But you can get cheaper double loop masks from ULINE, for example, the box and shipping materials supplier. They ARE also CDC approved.
Cloth masks do not provide nearly the protection of genuine N95 and KN95 masks, ESPECIALLY for the wearer. I would never, ever wear a cloth mask, or one of the blue medical masks, anywhere around other people. While they will slow down the dispersion of droplets and aerosol from the wearer, they will not protect YOU from another's 'spray' as well as an N95 or KN95 respirator mask.
About the best mask you can get is the 3M N95 respirator WITHOUT a valve. But these are just about impossible to find, as far as I know. I bought 50 of them way back in Feb last year. :> ))
Hope that is some more help..

(14,757 posts)Where n95 is a us rating. The fda never approved kn95 masks over quality concerns, but I think they loosened up as supplies of n95's became exhausted..
So where that level of protection is mandated, n95 are preferred. For our uses, kn95's are superior to the dust masks most commonly available.
