Members are quitting 'sad' Mar-a-Lago after Trump loses

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/24/business/mar-a-lago-donald-trump-guests/index.html

New York (CNN Business)Many once-loyal members of Mar-a-Lago are leaving because they no longer want to have any connection to former President Donald Trump, according to the author of the definitive book about the resort.

"It's a very dispirited place," Laurence Leamer, historian and author of "Mar-a-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump's Presidential Palace," told MSNBC host Alex Witt on "Weekends with Alex Witt" Saturday. He said members are "not concerned about politics and they said the food is no good."

Leamer said he spoke to a number of former members who "silently walked out" after Trump left office.

Trump moved to the Palm Beach, Florida, estate after his term ended last week. But without the cachet of the sitting president of the United States working at the estate, guests are finding Mar-a-Lago lost a step. There isn't any entertainment on the property during the pandemic, and Leamer added, "It's a sad place ... it's not what it was." (continues....)

Mar-a-Lago has long been ridiculed by critics as a stodgy, stuffy club filled with Trump memorabilia -- some of it fake. Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on Friday recounted a visit to the resort just before Trump became president.

"You could not possibly exaggerate how comical it is," Kimmel said on The Ringer's "The Bill Simmons Podcast." "Everyone there is 100 years old."

Kimmel told Simmons he went to the resort about six years ago to have dinner with Howard Stern, who lived near the property at the time. He described the Mar-a-Lago attendees as "hunched-over people who are eating soft food" and he said the place is covered in Trump photos.

"It was just quiet and a terrible place," Kimmel said. "And now he lives in this terrible place."

Good. Doubling the membership fees at all his places was a dumb move. Let the membership flee. That includes Bedminster, Doral, and other places around the world.

Round 2 of the Impeachment Trial will cause more financial heart aches.

Seriously.

It would have to be a very high price for me to go to the West Palm Beach Trump Dump™. After all, I don't want to see, eat or talk with Trump. In photographs, the place looks garish and ghoulish. There are airplanes taking off and landing from the nearby busy airport and part of the property abuts the town garbage dump, (how appropriate). I don't even want to play his golf course and I'm a golf addict!

I think he'd have to pay me at least 6 figures. Then I'd post on Yelp! that the place is a shithole.

My favorite thing of the past few months, aside from President Biden's inauguration, was when the P.G.A. pulled their golf championship-- one of golf's "majors"-- from Trump's Bedminster club. That was a huge blow to his fragile ego and he was gut-punched by that decision.

Meanwhile, his club in Scotland has lost tens of millions of dollars every year he was president.

Isn't it delicious?

The city of West Palm Beach will only allow him to stay 3 weeks, then he has to leave. Otherwise it becomes his permanent residence, and that's not allowed in their zoning regs. No doubt there will be big fines and eviction notices soon.

I'm surprised he has not already tried to convert it into MAGA Party headquarters (complete with TV studios) or a MAGA amusement park.

I seem to recall there was an exodus after the 2016 election, either due to Donny himself and/or the fact that he doubled the membership fees. Anybody that joined after that had to be looking for what they could get from a corrupt POTUS. No reason to stick around any longer.
