Is anyone here using Turbotax to file a New York State return?

I'm getting some bullshit that I have to wait for NYS to update a form before my state taxes can be completed. I forget what the form is, but it doesn't look like it even applies to me.

I'm afraid this might be the second year in a row where I get some unsolvable problem that Turbotax customer service can't fix.

Anyone else?

Do you have a State filing requirement? CountAllVotes Jan 2021 #1

If you don't google state tax filing requirement state of New York and print it out and move on to filing Federal.

At that point, I dump TurboTax, print the thing out and mail it to the IRS.

I don't efile this way.

I've roughed out both my federal and state taxes in Turbotax. I'm just waiting for one 1099 to make sure the control numbers etc, are correct, and then it looks like Turbotax will let me submit my federal return electronically. However it, won't let me submit the state taxes until a form is updated by the state.

Also, it appears that since I prepared my taxes myself electronically, I must file them electronically in NYS, per this statement that I found in Google:

"You're required to electronically file your return if you meet all three of the following conditions: you use software to prepare your own personal income tax return; and. your software supports the electronic filing of your return; and. you have broadband Internet access".

My only other choice would be to prepare my state taxes by hand and mail them in. I'm not going to go through that hassle since I've already purchased the software, the taxes are complete within the software, and I can file for free electronically by hitting a button.

I have no filing requirement as the household income is so low.

I file anyway and use the TurboTax free edition for persons over the age of 60.

I do not receive a refund nor do I pay anything.

I wish I could be of more help.

As I stated, I have no filing requirement as my income is too low to have to do so.

"The NY Form IT-558 is required to report any New York State addition and subtraction adjustments required to re-compute federal amounts using the rules in place prior to any changes made to the Internal Revenue Code after March 1, 2020.
TurboTax will create and populate the form for you based on your interview answers. The form is scheduled to be ready in TurboTax by 1/28/2021".

I worked last season for H&R Block -- this is just the way it is, and has zero to do with the company you are working with. Just give it some time. They made last minute changes due to Covid, so IRS has to scramble and sometimes change certain forms. IRS Tax Season Begins Feb 12

I do US and NYS with Turbotax, and there are updates to the software into March. Blame the Dept of Taxation and Finance.
