lack of energy since the 21st. It feels good not to be on pins and needles every second of my life now. I'm really enjoying this peaceful, mellow feeling.

Looking forward to another viewing of that Watergate movie, the one with Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as the reporters up against Nixon's bad guys. It'll be positively quaint, compared to the shit that has gone down in the last few days.

I've seen that movie, but you're right, now it would be rather quaint in comparison to what we've experienced. "You call THAT a scandal? Seriously?" Of course, I wish Nixon's abuse of power had been the extreme or that GW Bush had been the most incompetent. I am afraid to imagine how low a president can go.

Well, for right now, I think I'll try to imagine how far up a president can go. A good time to start counting our blessings, of course with an ever cautious watchful eye on the past.

Nixon prolonged the war and killed I don't know how many Vietnamese...and how many Americans.

Dubya killed I don't know how many Iraqis, Afghanis, etc, and Americans.

I'm guessing that when the butcher's bill is added up, trump will be right there with them in the total-killed category. His downplaying of the pandemic and lack of leadership and planning to combat it will kill hundreds of thousands of Americans.

on his "secret plan" to end the Vietnam War, but there was no plan and he kept it going so he could get reelected. I don't recall him showing any remorse for all the lies and the many lives lost. He saw everything through a political lens and was addicted to power. That was truly a cold calculating man.

I believe ignoring abuse of power many times over the years brought us to the Trump presidency. Without Nixon, Reagan, Gingrich, or Bush to mention a few, we probably wouldn't have had a President Trump. He was not some anomaly created in a vacuum. The way was paved over four or five decades.

The phrase that they kept using was "stonewalling," since Nixon had adopted a strategy of not talking about the Watergate 'Hoax."
Several Doonesbury strips showed workers building the wall for months as the dialogue bubbles were coming out of the White House.
This was the strip the day after Nixon resigned.

Very cool combining relevant history w current event!
We ALL needed a bit of a rest!

Thanks SCanti since I didn't see the cartoon build up over those weeks back then.
I forgot the "Stonewalling" phrase for Nixon.

Was at a C,S,N&Y Concert the night he resigned!
😂💖😂 How perfect!!!!!
