Megyn Kelly believes that media outlets were partially to blame for the riot at the Capitol earlier this month because they "checked their objectivity" when covering Donald Trump.
"They hated him so much, they checked their objectivity, and it wasn't just CNN. All of them did. They just couldn't check their own personal feelings about him," Kelly said in a recent interview with BBC Newsnight.
The former Fox News host then said "too many" journalists followed the "Jorge Ramos theory of covering Trump" by describing Trump and his behavior as racist, sexist and misogynistic.
"He advocated, prior to Trump's election, that we needed to cover him differently, that you needed to outwardly call him a racist, sexist, misogynist, all of it, and that that was important for history. And I think too many journalists agreed with that at their own peril," Kelly said. "Part of the reason that we saw what happened on the Capitol here, two weeks ago, was because there's been a complete lack of trust, destruction of trust in the media and people don't know where to turn for true information. They don't trust the media anymore, and it's a major problem."

(9,182 posts)1. Fox aint taking you back, and Newsmax and OAN cant afford you.
2. Do you think, just possibly, the lack of trust in the media was caused by five years of Trump calling them fake news and the enemy of the people?

(30,249 posts)So it's the media's fault that Trump lied so much (over 30K during his term), that fact checkers started with the premise that he was lying and then tried to prove or disprove his claims? Is it the media's fault that Trump refused to accept that he lost the election, despite 61 case thrown out of court by judges of both parties, including some appointed by him and twice by SCOTUS? Is it also their fault that Trump's lies about an election that was not fraudulent culminated with the events of the 6th? Please, Megyn, you're a disingenuous sycophant.

(3,019 posts)It is an interesting debate and it gets gray because for many people the "news folks" and "talking heads" are easily confused. When some large percentage of the media that speaks to and affects public opinion can hide behind a legal defense that they are just "entertainers", it takes some discernment. There really should be some chyron warning or something when Hannity and the like is on "This person is NOT a journalist!". We on DU probably just scrub this in our brain in 2 seconds, but I fear all too many don't get it.
It is why I really like Dominion suing the talking heads that want to accuse fraud and vote rigging with zero evidence. While expecting them to hew to a journalistic standard is not reasonable, stopping them from the yelling the equivalent of "Fire!" in a crowded noisy democracy has to be stopped. Suing, losing donors, advertisers, access to apps and servers is probably the only tool we have and I wish more, like the states' secretaries of state and election officials would take class action status against these actors.

Funny that the woman who wants points for outing sexual harassment at FOX News thinks the media should protect the " just grab'em by the pussy!" guy.
