... His thinly-attended farewell this week seemed to encapsulate his plunge in fortune.
A lot of this was wishful thinking. Several hours after the assault on Congress, two-thirds of Republican representatives voted against certification of Joe Bidens victory. A week later, just 10 Republicans voted to impeach ...
... Mr Biden faces a dilemma. In his inaugural address .. he promised to foster .. unity ... Yet he also vowed to reject a culture in which the facts themselves are manipulated, even manufactured. Since much of the Republican party remains yoked to conspiracy theory .. it is hard to see how he can meet them halfway ...
... McConnell .. this week said the former .. president .. provoked the mob ... But no Republican senator, including Mr McConnell, has yet said they will vote to convict him ...

Until that time, there is nothing Democrats can do to improve the situation except to bow to the Republican's will. The Republicans made the huge mess we are in now with their winks and nods at issues that they knew to be wrong. They thought it was cute when their crazy base were giving Democrats a hard time, now it has come back to bite them in the ass. It is time for them to come clean.
They are the only ones that can fix it. If that were to happen, I would be the first to join hands with them to work together to make a better nation. We should be opposing ideas not warring armies.

(17,542 posts)Of traditional Republican's values of the past. It is a damn shame that it is a struggle. They need to get off the lies and try principles and honor for a change, hell, they may just like the way it feels. I am not holding my breath.

(10,190 posts)They couldn't possibly support real economic populism, that would hurt their wealthy donors. Republicans can only employ their usual populist appeals to racists and nazis.
