Few signs GOP will abandon ex-president's brand of populism

... His thinly-attended farewell this week seemed to encapsulate his plunge in fortune.

A lot of this was wishful thinking. Several hours after the assault on Congress, two-thirds of Republican representatives voted against certification of Joe Biden’s victory. A week later, just 10 Republicans voted to impeach ...

... Mr Biden faces a dilemma. In his inaugural address .. he promised to foster .. unity ... Yet he also vowed to “reject a culture in which the facts themselves are manipulated, even manufactured”. Since much of the Republican party remains yoked to conspiracy theory .. it is hard to see how he can meet them halfway ...

... McConnell .. this week said the former .. president .. provoked the mob ... But no Republican senator, including Mr McConnell, has yet said they will vote to convict him ...

... In a healthier democracy, the Republican party would be debating where it went wrong, having lost the White House and the Senate. Instead it is embracing the language of betrayal ...

1. Our democracy is quite sick. We barely held on to our republic.

A significant portion of America are sociopaths (criminals) or psychotic (due to brainwashing.)

2. Unity will need to come from the repubs

and the dems will be open to it, but unity does not mean the republicans get everything they want and the dems have to rollover. Time they learned the dems have had enough of their way of governing or should I say lack of governing.

5. There can be no unity until the Republicans tell there people straight up, in no uncertain terms

and over and over if necessary, that the November election was fair and honest, and that Joe Biden is the legitimate President of the United States. It really doesn't seem that that would be so damn difficult.

Until that time, there is nothing Democrats can do to improve the situation except to bow to the Republican's will. The Republicans made the huge mess we are in now with their winks and nods at issues that they knew to be wrong. They thought it was cute when their crazy base were giving Democrats a hard time, now it has come back to bite them in the ass. It is time for them to come clean.
They are the only ones that can fix it. If that were to happen, I would be the first to join hands with them to work together to make a better nation. We should be opposing ideas not warring armies.

It s their arrogance that they think they can continue to do whatever the hell they want as if they hold power, they have not yet received the memo.

Of traditional Republican's values of the past. It is a damn shame that it is a struggle. They need to get off the lies and try principles and honor for a change, hell, they may just like the way it feels. I am not holding my breath.

Let’s wait at least a month before the flood gates of MF45’s misdeeds get exposed. The torrent of stuff will ultimately sink into some of his cult members. Hopefully to the point where they will be too embarrassed to ever say they supported him.

7. What other "brand of populism" could the GOP adopt?

They couldn't possibly support real economic populism, that would hurt their wealthy donors. Republicans can only employ their usual populist appeals to racists and nazis.

But, I don't need to read more than the snip to know I disagree with the whole thing.
It's like writing an obit for someone not born yet.
