Haberman: Trump's been talked out of creating 3rd party. Now believes GOP senators won't convict him

In last 24 hours, after floating through a few folks that he was considering creating a third-party as a way to keep Senate Rs in line ahead of impeachment, Trump has been talked out of that and is making clear to people he isn't pursuing it, per ppl familiar w his thinking.

Trump has started to believe there are fewer votes to convict than there would have been if the vote had been held almost immediately after Jan. 6, the people familiar with his thinking said.

There’s also the fact that threatening a third party while simultaneously threatening primaries makes no sense, which some folks gently pointed out to him.

That would require some actual work.

I don't know why people take things that he says seriously. He is unable to tell the truth about anything.

Plenty of these flags at the parades and the Insurrection.
Guessing there are already grifters taking donations via a PAC.

The same people who propped him up will want to fleece these idiots.
Too much money up for grabs.

They may run candidates--like the freedom caucus or the tea party people. Same people.
They may not win.
But the fascist wing of the GOP has shown us exactly what they will do. We dismiss this as chatter at our own peril.

I wrote to Amazon PR with that same link. Unconscionable support of terrorism.

Money talks. Shame, shun, shunt aside.

Classic Trump. Let's see if Republicans call Trump's bluff. Trump can take over an existing party. But build one? I don't think so. It would be a writhing mass of competing, face-painted, camo-kook, broken units. He might be able to fleece a few million out of them for trademarked merchandise, but I don't think he can get much power out of them.

Trump has never been talked out of anything. That's why the R's can't trust him. In fact, the only way to stop him from heading up a 3d party is to make sure he's convicted and prevented from running for office again.

That's what Mitch is banking on. Because he doesn't trust him either.

but they are worried about how much it will cost them. Their simple solution is to impeach him for what he is guilty of and get on with trying to recover their credibility.

Trump's leanings as to whether he will or will not form another party is subject to change as often as I change underwear (at least once a week) He is going to be so damn busy trying to keep out of both the poor house and the iron house he will not have time to organize a viable political powerhouse; even if he had the financing, he doesn't have the sense. Trump as a political figure is over; he is a boogey man we don't have to be frightened of any more. Trump is also at that age were old fat men that eat crap for a diet can go down-hill very quickly health wise. I don't seem him being physically up for another run.

Trump will never be elected president again and if the Republicans run him, they will have to pay the piper. If he forms his own party, then the Democrats will win by a landslide against both Republican parties. I don't think that is our worry. Our worry will be keeping more crazy people out of the House of Representatives. That house could degenerate into madness with a single election, paralyzing the nation in the process. That is the boogey man that keeps me up at night.
