(45,447 posts)the board of governors is full of Trump's cronies plus just 1 Democrat. What they've done to the postal service this year is just plain unacceptable. During this pandemic is when people needed the postal service the most and these assholes deliberately kneecapped it.

My husband worked on those machines for many years. (Thankfully hes retired). There were times these machines were broken down and moved to other post offices that needed a machine. Not once do I remember they took them and just destroyed them.

(8,746 posts)I got my auto insurance bill of December 29th, due January 6th. I mailed the bill December 30th, carbon check dated as will as statement stub dated. I got a letter from Insurance yesterday stating my insurance lapsed and needed a request and two payments to renew. My bank account showed check was processed Jan 20. Mail took 21 days. So DeJoy cost me lapsed insurance coverage and a $15.00 late charge. I did get ahold of the insurance company Daturdsy, on hold 45 minutes. Ive been with them 20 years with auto and home and my daughters car and home. Never missed a payment, never late, never filed a claim. Arrogant rep would not drop late charge. Said I needed to find a more reliable way to pay my bill. Pay in person of get certified mail. How would senior disabled person do that, in pandemic? I asked with this mail mess what if I get statements late after bill is due. She said thats not their issue. I will be insurance shopping tomorrow. If you have Travelers, tell em fuck you.

I think this rep may have been out of line. I'd call again and see how far you can get with another rep. One rep does not necessarily reflect the company's outlook. Generally companies know how much it costs to get a new customer and in cases like this, know it's a lower cost to waive any fees than it is to replace you as a customer.

The Biden Administration is still staffing up. I'm convinced he's well aware of this issue and probably had to deal with it during his campaign with slow or lost mail.
Joe has this on his do-list........
MyMission
(1,850 posts)I've said the same. Biden has so many priorities. It's on his list.
The postmaster general is chosen by USPS board of govenors. There are several vacant seats on the board, which Biden needs to fill first. Then they or he can fire dejoy. If he fires him before the board is restored, the rethugs would still have a majority and would replace him with another inept sycophant. Or they might not even have a quorum to be able to select and vote for a new postmaster. There is currently no deputy postmaster, so firing him would leave no one in charge.
From Wikipedia, about the board:
It consists of 11 members, 6 are requisite to achieve an ordinary quorum. Of the 11 board members, 9 are the presidentially appointed governors, 1 is the postmaster general, and 1 is the deputy postmaster general. The 9 governors elect the postmaster general, the chairman of the board as well as the USPS inspector general; the governors and the postmaster general elect the deputy postmaster general. No more than five governors may be adherents of the same political party.
So, 45 left most Dem seats vacant, but he did appoint one because a quorum was needed to install dejoy. There are 3 vacant board seats, plus the deputy postmaster slot.
I'm sure he's considered who he will appoint to that board. Not sure if he's nominated any yet, as he's busy filling his cabinet, and other important positions. He has so much to do
I'm sending President Biden prayers with big bundles of energy.
KY_EnviroGuy
(14,492 posts)If President Biden puts some of his people in there, they can begin an analysis of the damage that's been done. Wasn't there a committee set up in Congress to investigate all the turmoil Dejoy had caused?
Right now, we all just need to be patient and let the new administration settle in and support them in any way we can.
I look forward to DU providing ideas on what we can do.......

(1,850 posts)They live in the Cleveland area. Her husband, almost 75, got it last week, and she, almost 70, has an appointment in 2 weeks.
I'm aware many were surprised and impressed by your governor's initial response, only to be disappointed and disgusted. Glad things are moving along there. Did anyone reply to the board member? I live in a very republican area, and pick and choose when and how I respond to political statements.
I'm turning 60 later this year, don't expect to be eligible for several months. We have a huge number of retirees in my area, which includes Asheville, NC. We have a UNC affiliated hospital and got one of the earliest shipments, and extra refrigerated storage containers to hold them. Not sure how their distribution is being managed, but the first group included those over 75, now revised to 65 and older. My cousin said that was true for Ohio too.
I've heard frustrations expressed about getting to schedule an appointment, phone lines are swamped, easier to sign up on line, but that gets swamped sometimes, so better to do that after business hours. But people are getting through, getting appointments, getting vaccine.
I'm patiently waiting for my turn.

(7,901 posts)or willful damage to USPS property. Conspiring to interfere with the rapid and efficient delivery of the mail is also not protected, regardless of orders from the administration. Laws were broken by DeJoy and the Board. They carry serious consequences for a reason.
Arrest them now and fire them later.
onenote
(42,706 posts)And it's all but certain that a court would stay the firing while the case was pending. So fire now and then litigate isn't the best strategy, partially when you consider that if Biden fills the vacancies on the Board of Governors, he can have a Democratic majority on the Board and their power to fire DeJoy is much clearer than Biden's power to do so.

Filling those 4 vacancies with Democrats will give Democrats the majority of the 9 member board, and they can remove him.

So I filed an insurance claim 1/21/21.
Just got tracking update last night that it will be delivered today. Coinkydink? Dont think so. Not holding my breath for that package arrival all the same.
Its jewelry so of course its insured. With my claim I included the receipt.
But what about the millions of pieces of mail that are not insured or that people lost the receipt for?
I fucking hate DeJoy.
Fire him and litigate later.
USPS employs 600,000 people. Theyre all afraid for their jobs and we cannot use the postal service for fear of our stuff getting lost forever. So USPS will die out intentional sabotage. He needs to be gone today.
