(3,282 posts)At the end. He grabbed him, but they had let that go all day and then called it there. Afams was mugged on the goal line with no call. Plus there was an uncalled hold on the RT on the same play.
Awful way to end that game. Call it evenly.
House of Roberts
(5,175 posts)where the guy stretched the jersey two feet behind the receiver, and changed hands to deflect the ball?
BGBD
(3,282 posts)Because they let them hold all day in the secondary. TB was doing it on every play.
If you aren't going to call it both ways then its a bad call.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Unless a Ref was in exactly the right position, the Ref would have missed the hold completely.
The Green Bay hold near the end of the game was obvious. The Green Bay defender pulled the opponents jersey out so far that a downfield official clearly should have saw the jersey pull, and that is exactly what happened. Look like the official that saw the jersey pull waited to see if the closer official would make the call, when that didnt happen, the downfield official threw a flag. The call was right.
BGBD
(3,282 posts)That he held. He did. My point is that there were many holds just as obvious all game that went uncalled, but a very late flag comes out on that one.
It was very "protect Brady" as the NFL has been known to do.

(31,261 posts)I watched highlights after the game. Just before Tampa Bay kicked the field goal to make it 31-26, Brady threw a third down pass near the Green Bay goalline that would have given Tampa Bay a first and goal. There was a mass pile of bodies and the ball bounced away from the Tampa Bay guy. It looked like to me that the Tampa Bay receiver was interfered with, in fact he got up with his arms out looking for a Ref to throw a flag - that incident would refute your claim that the Refs were in the bag to get Brady to the Super Bowl, if that was the case, why didnt they flag a play that looked like interference and give Tampa Bay first and goal, which would have ended the game sans Brady throwing a 90+ yards pick-6.
Which again is my point. When you let those calls go all game, you can't make one on the biggest play of the game.
Both teams had no calls, but only one team got a call.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)goalline, the game was basically over, Tampa Bay would have had it won. Even if Tampa Bay didnt manage to score a touchdown, it could have run off something like 75+ seconds on the play clock before kicking a field goal.
Your claim seems to have been that the Refs were going to send Brady to the Super Bowl. I illustrated one KEY play late in the game that says your claim is most likely wrong.
BGBD
(3,282 posts)why that was the only play they called it on.

or why only one side of that play got a call.

(31,261 posts)But the only clear penalty on the pass plays was the Green Bay player grabbing onto the jersey and pulling it hard. On the two other plays, Refs could have called OFFENSIVE or DEFENSIVE pass interference, depending on which they saw. In both cases where you listed the Green Bay player as being interfered with, the Green Bay relievers had put their hands on the defender first or simultaneously to push the defender off, you can clearly see that in the video that you posted, the Green Bay player pushed back on the Tampa Bay player with his right arm, the Tampa Bay player then pushed back with his left arm before cutting in front to intercept the ball - in a rapid sequence situation like that, if a Ref saw the Green Bay player push off the Tampa Bay player with the right arm, offensive pass interference would have been called, if the Ref had only seen the Tampa Bag player push back after the Green Bay player moved his right arm toward catching the ball, then defensive pass interference would have been called. In both cases, it looks like the Refs were not positioned to catch either push off, since both were fairly well hidden, IMO.

(24,504 posts)But, in tightening games, the refs start to pay more attention to obvious fouls. Looked like a hold, but they called it late.
Anyways, GB coaching will have to explain the FG instead of going for it....I think Rogers deserved the moment.
Pretty good game, especially the 4th qtr.
BGBD
(3,282 posts)But they let holds go on the plays before the FG happened. If you don't call the hold on Adams you can't call that one either.
All you ask for is an evenly called game and is was until that.

(31,261 posts)Brady played with a team of castaways that had only two big name stars coming in, Evans, a holdover and Gronkowski. The rest were castoffs or players that had underperformed. When I watched Brady take a team into KC two years ago in the AFC Championships and come away with a win, that sold me on him as the GOAT, the guy seems to motivate players around him, give him a half decent supporting cast and he wins.

(15,286 posts)That's a reasonable assumption for why the spy tape was destroyed - by the NFL office no less. Then we have the underinflated footballs incident. Of course, there's famous "tuck" ruling. Brady was ok with this because it meant winning football games. In my book, Brady got to at least a couple of SBs he probably shouldn't have.
That call determined the game. Also Tampa should've been called for holding on that same play.
They could've called holding on Tampa in the first half which led to a interception and TD.
No Green Bay fan, but they got screwed over big time. Things like that are making people question the corruption in the NFL.

(31,261 posts)white in color. There is always going to be a play that some can look at and say that it cost their team the game, but almost never is that claim correct, an earlier or later decision or play cost the game.
lpbk2713
(42,757 posts)It was a blatant penalty and the officials had to flag it. The defender had a solid enough grasp that he managed to change hands. And that proved it wasn't incidental.
BGBD
(3,282 posts)The choose not to call them.
All you ask for is consistent and even calls. If they were going to flag that, they should have flagged many other plays today too. Especially the no call for Adams on the other end on the drive before. That was why Rodgers went over and barked at the ref. "Hey, why can't I get that call tonight?"

(9,895 posts)Then I will join the chorus of media whores writing the easy story and polishing Mr. Brady's knob with their tongues...
Today's NFL rules forbid even BREATHING on Brady...the game is nothing like it was in the 80's and 90's and light years away from the game pre-passing rules changes in the late-70's. Yeah, he has won a lot...he is also babied like Starr, Staubach, Bradshaw, Greise, and others cold only dream of...best of his era? OK best of all-time? Can't tell without seeing him take the hits and play those D's....

(24,504 posts)No one in NE thought he'd be the permanent replacement. But, he was. And NE never looked back. And how much do you have to hate him not to admire that, in his 1st year in TB, he takes them to a place he's been a whole bunch of times....?
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)He had two name brand stars coming in with him this year, Evans (good, but was never a team leader type of guy) and Gronkowski (out of retirement). He had a lot of guys around him that had underperformed, a Number 1 running back that was released by the team that drafted him Number 1, a Nose Tackle that was large - but just large, a once potent Defensive End who was near the end of his career - oh - and had almost blown off one of his hands. Brady and his coaches could not get on the same page earlier in the year, his head coach publicly criticized him once. Yet, by the time the playoffs rolled around, the offensive line was as good as any that Brady had in New England, the runningbacks were chewing up valuable yards to keep possession, and Brady was generally throwing darts and befuddling defenses with how quickly he gets the ball out of his hands, he had his miscues, but when the game was on the line, he didnt make mistakes and put his team in a position to win. Now he gets a Super Bowl in his home stadium, something that he never had at New England, and Bradys history is that he is almost unbeatable at home.

(9,895 posts)1) He is a Michigan grad...as a Notre Dame fan, I am predisposed to disliking all skunkbears.
(How do you get a Michigan Grad away from your front door? Pay for the pizza...)
2) I was a massive St. Louis Rams fan and SB XXXVI was STOLEN and gifted to the Patriots, period. I won't get into the Q-anon worthy 'proof'...but fuck the Patriots, forever...
3) After the Rams had SBXXXVI stolen, the franchise entered a death spiral in St. Louis prior to Stan Kroenke getting a chance to fuck us over and head to Los Angeles again, taking the team he HELPED move to St. Louis away and making money for himself while trashing St. Louis on the way out the door...not exactly Brady's fault...but fuck the Patriots anyway...
4) Brady was LUCKY in many of his SB wins...he could seriously be closer to 3-6 (or worse without Vinateri's clutch kicks) than 6-3 in title games...the Seahawks and Falcons basically choked in epic fashions but everyone ignores the element of luck in these games that Tom Brady benefits from...
Rams (1) refused to run against 8 DBs and constant defensive holding
Panthers tied game and then kicked OB to give Brady all of 30 yards to GW FG
Eagles (1) McNabb hyperventilating and basically unable to play down 2 with last chance
Giants (1) - lost blew undefeated season with a paltry 14 points
Giants (2) - lost because Eli Manning OWNS Brady when Peyton could not...
Seahawks - HAND THE BALL TO MARSHAWN LYNCH AND WIN...Pete Carroll brain aneurism
Falcons - 28-3? Just take a knee and run the clock...or avoid a sack while still up 8?
Eagles (2) - lost to Big Dick Nick and Philly Special
Rams (2) - won because Belichick made McVay crap his drawers
5) I just flat out do not like him to begin with, but being a Trump fan as he is sealed the deal for me...we hates it forever, precious!!!
****THIS IS MAINLY TONGUE IN CHEEK SOUR GRAPES STUFF...BUT IT GETS A RISE OUT OF PATS FANS, UNLIKE FOOTBALLS USED IN COLD WEATHER HOME GAMES BY BRADY!!!! ****

(24,504 posts)I, too, wish he had finished his career in a patriot's uniform, but I think it was more like Brady could not remain with Bill in charge. Kraft sided with Bill, Tom went to TB. Tom Brady = TB = Tampa Bay. Have to like the symmetry.
Wow, he delivered so much, but you begrudge him his opportunity to prove himself without the Patriot's organization behind him?
Blaukraut
(5,693 posts)I also don't appreciate how he teased fans at the end of last season with cryptic social media posts about his status as a Patriot when he already knew he didn't want to stay and was actively trying to get signed by anybody BUT the Pats. (there are plenty more reasons I could give but I don't want this to get lengthy and pee in your cornflakes, so to speak)
That said, I noticed a real divide among my Pats fan friends. Those who have been through the Shaefer and Sullivan stadium days are more ambivalent toward Brady now than the ones who came aboard during the Brady years. Makes sense, too.

(50,559 posts)My prediction: Right now, the Chiefs are sitting somewhere nice and comfortable having this discussion: "In 2015, the Seattle Seahawks were the defending Super Bowl champions and they played a team with Tom Brady under center. We all know what happened on the last play of the game. We are the defending Super Bowl champions, and we're about to play a team with Tom Brady under center. What do we have to do to ensure history doesn't repeat itself?"

(2,672 posts)We had two NFL's The one before Rodger was in charge and one after.
The NFL black balled Kaepernick when is suited them and now they stand with BLM for unity
They sold the patriots and patriotism hand in hand.
They Sold Pat Tillman as a Hero story because it made them money.
They literally sold out to the US government. The only reason players are out standing for the anthem
They sold Tom Brady (a Trump fan) over and over and over and over again
Now they are selling Pat Mahomes literally with State Farm on every commercial
The NFL does not care who wins the SB, they care that the game is close as you watch it all. Oh, but they do care or we might have Cleveland vs the Rams but that story is just not as good.
Call me a old school. Joe Montana had his back broken on the field and the NFL did nothing, Brady had his knee torn up and the NFL made up a new rule that NFL defensive players could not tackle the Qb's lower body. who is the Goat now. Thought so...
Enjoy the Game, but if you think the Rodger did not engineer this story, you are kidding yourself
