Anybody else notice Trump channeling Jerry Lewis when he screams "go down to the CAPITOL"

The now ubiquitous clip (on TV, YouTube has taken it off) of Trump telling his supporters that we are "going down to the Capitol" struck a funny chord the first couple of times I heard it, "who in the hell is he channeling?"

Then I heard it clearly, it was a spot on rendition of Jerry Lewis' crazy sentence routine where he would start a sentence and in the middle take one word to a crazy half falsetto-half scream emphasis.

Once I noticed it I could not get it out of my head, he sounded just like Lewis when he said "we are going down to the CAPITOL". I told a couple of friends and now that is all they can hear when they hear the famous clip.

Ari Melber must have just run it because I just got 5 funny texts from friends riffing on "Jerry Lewis as an American Mussolini" texts.

Once you make the connection you cannot unhear it.

I've been asking my husband why he did that line as Jerry Lewis. It's weird.

Also, reminds me of this comedian imitation of Trump... Worth watching, especially when he gets to the "Velma" part.

It's like when Jerry Lewis says, "Hey, LAY-dee!!!"

Usually his weird monotonous cadence reminds me of someone equally evil: Jim Jones. It's nice to have a chance to laugh at his stupid speech patterns instead of feeling a cold shiver go up my spine.

Thanks for posting!

Now I have to google it and listen to it.

Jerry Lewis used to make me laugh as a kid.

I grew up in a highly regimented Goldwater loving home. Everything was done in a certain way, my mother who grew up with her mother during the depression in tough times found comfort in having things done by a clear set of rules. At one point when the three boys were lingering while eating dinner a timer was installed and the dinner was finished in 15 minutes. The three boys became speed eaters. We all had situations where on our first dates with a girl they would look up in shock that the boy in question had finished the dinner as they were taking their third or fourth bite.

One of the rules was that Jerry Lewis wasn't funny. We didn't go to Jerry Lewis' movies because he wasn't funny.

On the last day of 6th grade all of the students were allowed to go to the gym and spend the last afternoon watching Jerry Lewis movies. I didn't find him particularly funny but it was a true epiphany watching 180 peers laughing uncontrollably for 3 hours. I had suspected for years and now had proof, there was an alternative world away the Rules of the Mother.

He helped me become a subversive.

My post-Depression Republican parents were not quite as rigid as the Rules of the Mother, but close. The rules in our house mostly came from The Dad.

Whatever it took to make you a subversive is a good thing.
