The former head of a Canadian casino company and his actor wife have been fined after chartering a private plane to a remote community near the Alaska border and receiving coronavirus vaccines meant for vulnerable Indigenous residents.
According to officials, Rodney and Ekaterina Baker travelled by chartered plane to Beaver Creek, a community of 100 in Canadas Yukon territory, where a mobile team was administering the Moderna vaccine to residents. Among those slated for the vaccine were elderly members of the White River First Nation.
At the mobile clinic, the Bakers claimed to be workers at a local motel, according to reporting by the Yukon News.
But after the couple asked for a ride to the airport and the hotel confirmed they werent employees, staff with the mobile clinic called enforcement officers.
After receiving the tip, enforcement officers searched for the couple at their quarantine location in Whitehorse, but found they had already left. They were discovered at the airport, preparing to fly back to Vancouver.

Two Vancourites have been ticketed and charged under the Yukons Civil Emergency Measures Act for breaking isolation requirements in order to sneak into a vaccine clinic and receive Moderna vaccine doses in Beaver Creek.
Husband and wife Rodney Baker, 55, and Ekaterina Baker, 32, were ticketed and charged in Whitehorse on Jan. 21, 2021. The couple apparently travelled from Vancouver to Whitehorse, before chartering a private plane to Beaver Creek.
Its alleged they then went to the vaccine clinic in Beaver Creek, where the mobile vaccine team was administering Moderna doses vaccines to the isolated community of around 100 people, including members of the White River First Nation (WRFN).

Canadian casino executive and his wife sneaked into remote town to get injections meant for older population
Leyland Cecco in Toronto
Tue 2 Feb 2021 05.00 EST
On a chilly morning in late January, three planes landed on the lone airstrip of a remote community in northern Canada.
The first two carried members of a mobile team from the Yukon territorys health department who were there to give Covid-19 vaccines to the residents of Beaver Creek. The tiny settlement of about 100 inhabitants had been prioritised because of its older population, many of whom belong to the White River First Nation.
The third aircraft, a bush plane, was unexpected.
Onboard were the casino executive Rod Baker and his wife, the actor Ekaterina Baker, who had broken quarantine and flown to Beaver Creek for the sole purpose of receiving doses of the Moderna vaccine.
Over the next few hours, the couple travelled into town, posed as local motel employees, received their shots and then escaped as quickly as they had arrived.
