Riley June Williams is in hot water with federal prosecutors for apparently destroying online evidence related to the Capitol insurgency after she was released to home confinement with consent of prosecutors.

But the bigger story lies with this unanswered question: Why was a woman who stole House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's computer ever released to the comfort of her mama in the first place.

It is simply not one of the crimes she was charged with, and repeating it a million times isn't going to change that. The judge has to make a decision based on the charges they have, not some statements by an ex-boyfriend that weren't charged and that have been amplified on message boards and social media beyond any corroboration.

She hasn't been charged with stealing Pelosi's laptop.
She hasn't been charged with trying to sell or otherwise dispose of Pelosi's laptop.
