I was wrong, you guys were right...
Betcha he held up the threat of filibuster in Mitch's face if he didn't back off.
If I was a gambling old lady, I'd wager my month's SS check on this.
But I'm an old lady that never gambles, but still I feel like I'm right about this.
I just got schooled by Ezra Klein and Norm Ornstein on Lawrence O'Donnell's show just now.
Lost my dollars and donuts.

(7,282 posts)to let Mitch know, how he wants to keep the filibuster in place, but if Mitch wasn't going to back down on his power trip with regard committee chairs and the rest, that he would reconsider his position on the filibuster vote with Schumer on it, when he already made it known he wants to keep filibuster? Are you saying that these kinds of back room agreements don't happen?

(45,109 posts)Manchin is NOT going to vote to do away with the filibuster, nor is Sinema, and there are 9 other shaky ones, especially Feinstein.
The rest are Angus King, Mark Kelly, Bennett, Warner, Kaine, Tester, Booker, and Gary Peters, who have all said no in the past, although some have at least come around to considering it.
All it takes is one of those 11 (for sure Manchin and now Sinema are not caving, so we already are at 2) saying NOPE to keep the filibuster.
Instead of this attempt to spin this as some sort of Manchin masterclass that I wager will be coming, I would lean towards McConnell simply being SURE that we do not have the votes to do away with the filibuster, so in his calculations, it is almost as good as it being in writing and removes him (McTreason McTurtle) from the instant headache of getting sole blame for blocking the organising of the Senate basic housekeeping.

(7,282 posts)to pull out his trump card? Should have been done the minute Mitch refused to go by the 2001 rules. After all we've had to suffer through, he games are perfectly predictable. imo.
Editing to add I've never seen evidence that Mitch is ever embarrassed by his power grabbing Ahole-ishness.
