1) Mitch only wanted one or two Democrats to publicly promise they wouldn't ditch the filibuster. And he got that.

OR

2) Mitch and Schumer struck a deal where they will put some sort of new filibuster language in the organizing resolution, in a way where both can claim victory.

My guess is it is (1), but we'll see.

the organizing issue by a nuclear option on just that issue without having to nuke the filibuster anyway. McCaskill pointed out this could be done so McConnell’s position was always a pita one that could in the end be circumvented.

He "gave in," but he's sleazy enough to try to regain his power through other means. At least Schumer and his caucus know to watch their backs.
