Nurse to be tapped by Biden as acting surgeon general: report

Last edited Tue Jan 26, 2021, 10:00 AM - Edit history (1)

President Biden is expected to tap a nurse as acting surgeon general after former President Trump’s surgeon general was asked to resign last week, The Washington Post reported Monday.

The newly sworn-in president plans to name Susan Orsega, a nurse and officer in the U.S. Public Health Service corps, as among the first nurses to serve in the role, two people with knowledge of her selection told the Post. One source said Biden could select Orsega to serve as soon as Tuesday.

(although he used to but was dismissed by 45) and they have to have an active career (or appointee) person to be Acting.

Vivek Murthy is the nominee so hopefully they'll work their way to that confirmation (since he was there before, I would hope it would be a slam dunk).

I wonder why Joe chose a nurse?

I have the utmost respect for nurses, but it seems oxymoronic as even nurse practitioners do not perform surgeries that I know of.

My PC is a nurse practitioner & she is fabulous!

And at that, far enough up the chain where it's unlikely she would primarily review individual medical episodes and individual physicians. Surgeon is used in some older contexts to describe all doctors, just like now the term physician is used to include surgeons, where the two branches were once separate professions.

give her a chance to prove herself. Her experience is what counts, not what area in the medical field she comes from. With a Birx out there I know President Biden is on the case about things this like this that will affect us all...the "unfuck this. Unfuck that meme is apropos here...
