(11,100 posts)I found a cover by Cledus T. Judd and Joe Diffie - OK, but Stevens did it better. I found another cover by Phil Walker - weirdly campy and not particularly well done.

It's like a Mercedes. Rent one some day. The biggest pieces of shit you'd ever drive.
Two of my neighbors have them, they always have them in the shop. Now I see why.
I bet the dealership's towing service has everyone's home addresses in their GPS system.

(14,559 posts)Does that make me a bad person? At any given time there is more money sitting on my cocktail table than is parked in my garage (compact car and motorcycle!) and I don't think it's a big deal or anybody's business. I'm sure a $10,000 watch is a lot less than 20% of the Biden's annual income.

(402 posts)I mean, its a nice watch but a lot of people could afford one if that was their priority. I've bought motorcycles that cost more than that.

(7,625 posts)I actually have two- but one of them, the one I wear, is fake. I didn't buy either one.
The real Rolex was a gift from "Uncle John." Uncle John was my wife's stepfather's brother. My wife became his caretaker and later, guardian, when he went into a decade long slide into dementia. Early on, she quit her job, and as Uncle John's condition deteriorated, we agreed that Uncle John would be her "job" until he got to the point of going to assisted living. This stage lasted for a couple of years and Uncle John gave me his Rolex as an expression of gratitude for our sacrifices.
I consider the watch a keepsake (it keeps lousy time) and wore it every day. A couple years ago, my wife was winding the watch, dropped it, and smashed the crystal. Replacing the crystal costs something like $500 and we put it off. I told the story at the Democratic office where I was volunteering every day. Another volunteer gave me a knockoff replacement that he picked up cheap ($35?) in Singapore. I wear it every day.

(22,236 posts)that even some of the experts are getting fooled.
You used to be able to tell by the size of the magnified date or by testing the crystal to make sure it was sapphire instead of glass or by the little crown etched into the crystal, but now they have just about everything covered. Anyone can buy a Rolex replica for a little over a hundred bucks, and none of their friends will ever think is a fake.

(7,819 posts)one evening before he was married, someone knocked on his door, and identified himself as Jesus. What did Paul do? He invited Jesus in, made him a cup of tea, and then took him along to a Beatles rehearsal. It was the 1960s, people, and folks used a variety of drugs, and the likelihood that it was Jesus is small. But Paul didn't want to be the one to turn him away. There's a warning about that in the New Testament, after all. Paul tells this story in the quite good biography "Many Years From Now." This is your reminder of what to do if you meet Jesus, and I doubt he'll ask for your Rolex.

I financed the boat. Wont finance a watch.
