Out of 4,041,396 people who received the 1st dose of Moderna vaccine during Dec 21-Jan 10

During December 21, 2020–January 10, 2021, the administration of 4,041,396 first doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (2,465,411 to females [61%], 1,450,966 to males [36%], and 125,019 to persons whose sex was not recorded [3%]) was reported to CDC. During the same period, reports of 1,266 (0.03%) adverse events after receipt of the first dose of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine had been submitted to VAERS. Among these, 108 case reports were identified for further review as possible cases of severe allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, based on descriptions of signs and symptoms; 10 of these reports, all describing events in females, met the Brighton Collaboration case definition criteria for anaphylaxis (Table 1), corresponding to an initial estimated rate of 2.5 anaphylaxis cases per million first Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses administered. The median age of persons with anaphylaxis was 47 years (range = 31–63 years). The median interval from vaccine receipt to symptom onset was 7.5 minutes (range = 1–45 minutes); nine patients had onset within 15 minutes, and one had onset after 30 minutes (Figure). In all 10 reports, patients received epinephrine as part of initial emergency treatment; the route of administration was confirmed or presumed to be intramuscular based on the description of treatment and the clinical course of the event as documented in the VAERS report. Six patients were hospitalized (including five in intensive care, four of whom required endotracheal intubation), and four were treated in an emergency department; eight patients with follow-up information available are known to have been discharged home or had recovered at the time of report to VAERS. No deaths from anaphylaxis were reported after receipt of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Nine of the 10 anaphylaxis case reports included a patient history of allergies or allergic reactions, including to drugs (six), contrast media (two), and foods (one); five patients had experienced an episode of anaphylaxis in the past, none of which was associated with receipt of a vaccine (Table 2). No geographic clustering of anaphylaxis cases was observed, and the cases occurred after receipt of doses from multiple vaccine lots. At the time of this publication, despite follow-up efforts, investigators have been unable to obtain sufficient information to assess the likelihood of anaphylaxis in four of the initial 108 suspected cases reported.

I have previously had a reaction like these. Last one was over 25 years ago. Going to chance getting the vaccine with these kind of stats.

but an anaflaxis is serious. Breathing impaired, rashes and possible loss of consciousness and possible death if untreated. Scary but quickly treated with medication.

Symptom onset tends to occur quickly, according to the data

..where are those folks gonna wait when its giving in a drug store? Our county was featured on CNN.com about our efficiency and not wasting any of the drugs. We have it set up at the fair grounds with lots of buildings and lots of parking.

I'm allergic to penicillin and some other antibiotics. I'll still get a shot when they become available, but I guess I'll do it in an office as opposed to a pharmacy.

My wife had the same for about three days. It beats 90 days on a ventilator, 24 hours on a slab, and forever in the ground.

So far, I am on schedule for round II. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

... of the time the local police department was giving a talk to a women's group about keeping your child safe from abduction. I asked how many children in our town had been abducted ever. The answer, "none."

I get the second dose on Feb. 10th. My arm was sore and I had a headache for a day or so after the first. I have seen someone on a vent, I'll take my chances thanks.

Some vaccines have red meat by-products like gelatin in them that can cause a reaction. One of the problems with this allergy is that it doesn't hit you for at least 4-6 hours or more.

It was during a chemo treatment and I quickly fell unconscious.

The nurses there gave me an epi shot and I woke up, but one of them said "we almost lost you!"

Even so, I plan to get a vaccine --- that is, if there ever is some vaccine to be had. Lots of uncertainty about when and where it is available. My doc's office sure doesn't have any. And I don't plan on driving an hour to Gillette Stadium either.

the local health department in NW Florida. We both had sore arms for 2-3 days but nothing else. As we were leaving the building after our 30 minute wait (we both have allergies to meds) we noticed an ambulance parked outside. The building was crawling with medical personnel. We were comforted to see they were prepared to transport anyone with a true anaphylactic response but even happier that we didn’t need anything close to that. A 30 minute wait while we chatted with one of the staff members was sufficient.

Our second vaccine is already scheduled for Feb. 6th. No worries here even though we have heard we might have more side effects this time. It is a minor inconvenience compared to what might happen if we get Covid-19.

Flushed, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, shaking - 2 minutes after the injection. They monitored me for about fifteen minutes. Once they were sure I was OK, I was good to go. No other issues since, but on my 2nd shot I have to take someone with me and cannot drive.
