If they split up the party, where will we be? After all, that is why Hillary Clinton lost in 2016 - enough "third party" voters voted for their fringe candidates it gave just enough edge to give critical states to Trump so he had the most electoral votes.

I suspect the Democratic Party would still have the most votes, but that it would be close enough that the 2016 scenario could repeat with the electoral college going a different way than the popular vote.
