Rep. Mo Brooks, please resign

Representative Mo Brooks, please resign.

In my January 26, 2017, al.com Guest Voices column entitled, “Where is the moral courage of our Republican Congress,” I focused not on the 45th president of the United States, but rather on Republicans at every level who were “…twisting themselves into pretzels to defend and explain President Trump….” I concluded that piece by remarking that, “the emperor and the Congressional Republicans who are blindly admiring him are deleterious to our democracy.”

Fast forward four years, and the past is truly prologue. During his entire tenure as the most powerful person in the world, President Trump did exactly what he said he would do, to the detriment of so many across this country and beyond. Now, that the Disrupter in Chief has incited a deadly insurrection, I return to my question from that 2017 column – What exactly are complicit Republican leaders doing? Well, Rep. Mo Brooks literally joined Mr. Trump in an act of sedition, and as a consequence, he abdicated his responsibilities as a member of Congress. For that, Mr. Brooks must resign.
