Republicans a shot at being decent.

The filibuster stays as long as they behave like adults.

Give those two a reason to vote for nuking it.

if the Republicans choose to obstruct all reasonable legislation, that Sinema, Manchin, and whoever else will reconsider their position on not nuking the filibuster. Also, maybe the filibuster can be modified in such a way to make it less terrible.

There are various proposals to reform the filibuster, while keeping it. Most reforms would actually put the burden back where it belongs: on the minority. For example, requiring 41 votes to sustain a filibuster. This would require the minority to stick around. Today, one Senator puts a "hold" on and everyone else goes home.

I've heard it's because many Senators are physically too decrepit to actually speak at length.

around with Biden like you did with Obama. If she gave a carte blanche, then Turtle will be laughing into his soup.

And neither did Manchin, BTW.

Mitch has nothing. And Schumer is in full control. Period.

together via the same method that Reid used in 2013 (all nominations other than for the Supreme Court of the United States) and McTreason used in 2017 (removed the exception for SCOTUS nominations as well).

We do it by the process of setting a new precedent.

see this for a more robust fleshing out of that

they will not vote to do away with the filibuster and then use that as a sledgehammer against them when they run for re-election (both Manchin and Sinema are up for re-election in 2024) IF they do change their minds. I also think he is banking on one or both of those 2 to block a some of Biden's big ticket items via refusing to vote for them unless they are pared down.

Finally I think he (McTurtle) is looking at the last 2 two first midterms of a first term Dem POTUS (1994 and 2010, which were disastrous for us) and then applying it to the Senate 2022 map and is feeling far from pessimistic about his chances to reclaim the Majority in the the Senate.

We have 4 toss-up or near toss-up seats to defend (GA (Warnock), NV (especially if Sandoval runs v Cortez Masto), NH (especially if Gov. Sununu runs v Hassan), and the less likely (now that Ducey has said he is not going to try versus Kelly) AZ.

The Rethugs only have 3 truly at risk seats (the two open seats in PA and NC, plus the shitbox Johnson in WI). FL (Rubio is harder than those) being a possible 4th, but the rest are reaches in this coming midterm environment (as it stands, many things can change).
