My cell phone rang yesterday.
I picked it up and swiped to unlock.
I clicked the green, on-screen receiver icon.
I listened.
It was a representative from the local police union.
He asked for a donation.
I didn't speak.
I clicked the red, on-screen receiver icon.
It felt good.

(34,136 posts)Then tell then to take my number off their list, to not call me again, and to NEVER call me again. Then I hang up, not letting them get another word in.
I should keep records of the number and the organization so that if they do call again I can press charges of harassment. They are not supposed to call again if asked not to - but of course, scammers don't pay attention to that any more than they pay attention to the Do Not Call List.

(25,949 posts)Unions were created to protect rights of workers. Police unions serve to cover for the wrongs committed by bad cops.

(2,028 posts)None of the scam calls bother me more than this one.
I hang up shaking with rage after being outright threatened by
whoever they are. It's like a shakedown by a mobster.

(9,481 posts)I told them that I wouldn't support an organization that supports Republicans and whose members try to overthrow the government while being hostile to accountability for its members who violate the civil rights of US citizens.
When he tried to counter is when I hung up.

(15,384 posts)Telling them that 1) I don't donate over the phone and 2) I've already have picked my charities for the year, and they get pissed and go off script. I've interrupted them and asked if they think acting like a child is going to get me to change my mind, and I've gotten silence then a "fuck you" followed by a hangup.

(50,560 posts)I use DSL internet, and that comes with landline phone service as part of the package. I got usually 2 calls/day for my father, and the calls usually went something like this...
May I speak to (dads name), please?
May I ask whos calling?
Put an adult on the line, please. (My voice is slightly child-like.)
Who the fuck is this? Tell me right fucking now.
I am (name) from (fake police support group.)
The person you are calling for has been dead for a year and a half. Do not call here again.
And then the very next day the same person would call back.
