https://mediaproxy.salon.com/width/600/Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., received this weekend a custom-printed Glock 22 handgun with the congressional seal on the grip as an apparent gift from members of a group called "Boots on the Ground Bikers for Trump." Boebert now says she does not currently have possession of the gun, perhaps because it's a violation of House ethics rules for members to accept gifts worth more than $50. Furthermore, unauthorized use of the official seal of the U.S. Congress seal is a federal crime.
Video posted to Facebook on Sunday shows group member Duke Everest presenting the gun to the freshman conservative at a private event in a Colorado living room with about two dozen people in attendance. He explains that Boebert, who has made a show of flouting gun regulations in Washington, D.C., and within the U.S. Capitol, earned the gift by doing "exactly what we asked you to do."

This empty cartridge, this mis-fire of a human needs to be expelled from Congress

(14,764 posts)That isn't a printed hand grip. The whole lower receiver is 3d printed.
Not technically illegal, but it doesn't have a s/n and couldn't be registered. It would be illegal in dc since it's not registered.
So what did she do with it?

(49,445 posts)It's a common practice to use a heat tool of some sort to reform the plastic of these sorts of pistols. People take a soldering iron, for example, and jab the point into the plastic to add grip texture.
There is a substantial Glock aftermarket customization industry, so I'm assuming one of those businesses added the Congressional seal to an existing grip-texture procedure they already performed.
Google "custom glock texturing". I'll avoid posting pics because some people get offended by "gun porn".

(14,764 posts)The lower looks to be a single plastic part. The grip is not separate from the frame, and the only fasteners visible are pins, not screws.
You might be correct, it just looks printed to me. Hard to tell from just the one pic.

(49,445 posts)I don't believe Glocks do, though.
Some polymer pistols, the serialized part is the metal frame inside, so you can swap out the entire lower, including the dust rail and trigger guard.

(512 posts)I really dislike polymer framed pistols. I was issued one many years ago doing consultancy work in South Africa. Her side arm is garbage and ugly.

(4,743 posts)I never really gave it much thought, but I guess there's a reason all the gaudy, flashy, tacky, idiotic "Patriotic Commemorative Conservative Manly Handguns" advertised in the back of the various NRA rags are Colts..

(9,667 posts)A thumb safety, trigger safety, magazine safety, grip safety or keeping the thing unloaded/uncharged, etc. are all safety's/safety practice. IMO, a firearm with only a trigger safety ain't.
My point is that Boebert has nothing to think about before firing off - she's charged all the time.

(853 posts)The slide looks like it has been in and out of a holster hundreds of time. There is a dent from a thumb on the lower, looks like the original owner was left handed. So you give an old used gift with no historical significance as a gift.
