5. I agree. They were arrested for relatively minor crimes

that could be charged by complaint, which got them identified and in custody, but you need indictments for the big stuff. Looks like those are coming.

8. The misdemeanor charges are not indictments.

Indictments are handed down by the Grand Jury. They will replace (supersede) the original charges.

3. how are indictments different than arrests?

It seems like dozens of people have been arrested and arraigned.

Is this something being handed down by a grand jury and which is bigger than the arrests being made?

How is indictment being used here? Sorry, not a lawyer and never been arrested or indicted.

9. The relatively minor crimes like trespassing can be charged by complaint,

and this was enough to get the perps identified and arrested. Major crimes will be charged by indictment, which requires presenting evidence to a grand jury which then issues the indictments. This takes longer, which is why we are just starting to see them.

this can't be anything but good for the safety and security of everyone.

16. It can be bad if none of the pols who made it possible for this to happen aren't

on the list of indictments. So far, only the small fish have been ID'd. This is all for show if they don't get the people who funded, transported, organized and facilitated it with administrative orders (for police standing down, etc.) And let's not forget about the police murders--this is serious shit.
