2. One week in & I've seen nothing that suggests Dems are not using the power given them.

Contrary to the tone of it all, I am standing up & applauding every Democratic leader that came ready on the 1st day of owning their power of a trifecta.

Good on ya Democrats!!
Can't wait to see what they've got ready for week#2 !!

Trump will be acquitted by the Senate in another partisan-ish vote, with 52 guilty votes probably being the ceiling (conviction requires a supermajority). The fact that Roberts won't preside will undermine the weight of pulling off even that slight majority. I think it's important for reasons of legal precedent that the country impeach and try him, but true justice is just too much to hope for in our lawless age. Once Manchin and Sinema protected the un-democratic filibuster rule, the Democrats' wings were clipped.

I think the things we can get done before (as history predicts) the Republicans take over both Houses in 2022 are gonna be in solidifying the ACA, expanding categories of needy Americans covered by Medicaid (rather than Medicare), further regulate the abuse of patience carried out by large healthcare insurance carriers, bring taxes back up to sane levels so that we quit bankrupting the future, and bring about a global consensus on fighting climate change and overpopulation.

People of the 22nd century are gonna regard us like we think about 19th century slavery supporters. We should at least strive to be the 21st century Douglasses, Tubmans, and Garrisons, calling for an end to the insanity.
